I never had a smelly air freshener with my car.  All there is, is the black cartridge.  I have wondered if I can put sponge in there or cotton wool.

Also to make the thing smell, do you have to have the vents on the car open and or the heating on?  I ask this as I never have the central heating vents open as I have a holder for my phone there and don't want to cook or freeze my phone lol.

CabrioMike - I think the air freshener is a waste of time. Sure it usually comes with one but I've never bought replacements. They don't last long IMO and they cost a fortune.

Use a decent interior car product to make the inside smell nice would be the best way forward.... trees block my view...

Yeah they aren't great are they? Soaked the foam insert from mine in my fave aftershave in a plastic food bag overnight and that worked, for about a week. Not bothered with it since. Just get a decent air freshener these days.

Yes, those hanging cardoard air freshners work for a few days. Only 10p each or so- and given away at car chows

I have found something, if you get the Yankee candle vent sticks you can take of the top piece and then if you remove the foam piece from your air freshener they will fit in. Basically replace the foam from the are freshener cartridge with the vent stick Casinoboni, you can push it in so it sticks need a pair of pliers or the like to get it out again.

Okay, read the various options we have and I thought of sharing this link where I saw some fragrance sticks that seller recommends for use on peonage and Citroen including DS3. Now please note that I haven`t received or checked them yet but for the price US$ 1.60 shipped to Nairobi from China, well am eagerly waiting to see what that is all about! They are supposed to be five sticks per pack so am hoping that they can fit on the original diffuse unit. three scent types are offered, sea, Lemon and Cologne each containing the five stick am assuming that they will be different scents under each. So if u feel like me and take the risk of the unknown, here is the link - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001...49f34c4dNXkCDX . Personally I use Dr. Marcus car freshener refills and soak some onto the dispenser every month and it works okay for me.

I dipped mine in aftershave for a few hours (the foamy / cotton insert inside the air freshner module). It did the trick, though it was quite strong and I'm not sure the aftershave is healthy to be used in such a way given how strong it was, sort of turned my car into a nice-smelling gas chamber... Not sure I'll do it again.

Very keen to try the official refills at least once, but they're about ?18 on eBay and ?19 from my local DS dealer. I think they will be the only effective and safe long term way to enjoy this, but I don't think anyone can easily justify said cost. It's a shame dealers have to rip us off or I could have seen this being a nice little gimmick of owning the car that people might have enjoyed getting at each service etc.

Hello, I personally use a professional steam cleaner for this purpose. And you know how to clean offices? Steam cleaner consists of a vessel for heating water to a temperature of formation of hot steam, usually about 120-140 * C, in professional models it can be more than 180 * C. With such equipment you can clean any surface.
