Just wondering if this is something others have come across, so I can tell my mechanic where to look. I've had a slow oil leak for a few years now, it keeps getting picked up on the MOT but because it's that small, it's just put down as an observation rather than needing to be repaired.
I have however been trying to get it repaired over the past few months but the mechanic can't find it. It appears to be originating from somewhere which isn't easily visible, and because it's so slow it's not like you can observe it and trace it back.
I've had the chassis and engine underside cleaned also to try and make tracing it back easier but to no avail. The majority of the leak appears to be dripping to the left side of the main engine block (between the engine and battery location) though some does also appear to drip towards the front of the car.
Every 4-6 months I get a "check engine oil" message on the dash - though I'm never confident of how much oil I put in, because the damn dipstick is pretty awkward to read and I don't want to be overfilling the oil.
