Hi Chaps, first time poster but I have been coming to the forum for a while as the tech information here is excellent.
I'm hoping the brains trust here can help me with an alternator/charging issue. I have a heads up display in the car that recently alerted me to the fact that the electrical system in my DS3 2010 model was sitting at around 12.6 volts when the car was running. After a bit of investigation, I felt the alternator might be faulty so I purchased a good S/H one from a 2012 model. I fitted the replacement and the voltage came up to around 13.5 when the car is running but I was hoping for 14. I took the car out for a run and noticed that the voltage went up to 14 on the overrun, not when I was applying power! I know the alternator has a one-way pulley on it that only grips in the clockwise direction and it would seem to me that the pulley is engaging on the overrun, not in normal driving.
Is this right?
