  • Thickness of Thermocol, alts & anti-bacterial disinfecti

I am getting my 165G built and the project is already delayed, thanks to the builders - tank builder, Stand builder, Hood builder and my fav LFS. Seems like, at the earliest, it should be ready MAYBE Sunday-11th. So, I have nothing else to do but fume, look at the nice tank of other forum members, get frustrated, swear at my LFS fella with my choiciest adjectives, bug him and pull his leg regarding schedules & timelines & the very famous IST (aka Indian Standard Time) coz no one keeps that time

So here I am doing, next thing best, planning & discussing if all my equipments are OK or whether I need some modification whilst theres still time. Fine, here goes. A brief intro of my tank :
Aquarium - 165G, 6'x2'x22", 12 mm thick tempered St. Gobain glass, eurobracing & 2 cross braces each at top and bottom
Tank stand - Made of Steel, 6'x2' with cross braces at 2' each along its length. The horrible looking stand (could not afford wood since its extremely costly here) will thankfully be covered with 1/2" polished ply so that the steel isnt visible. Table top will have 1" thick ply. Total weight of aquarium + water + substrate + rocks + equipments should be around 1-1.1 tonnes

So here are my questions :

    1. What will be the thickness of Thermocol/Styrofoam that I will need to place on the table top on which the aquarium will be seated ? My intelligent LFS friend tells me 1" is more than sufficient :x :x

    2. What other material can be used in place of Thermocol sheets ? Again, cost will also have to be accounted. Can sponge/foam sheet be used ?

    3. Will I have to disinfect my tank before adding Ammonium Hydroxide and starting the N2 cycle ? My usually incorrect LFS friend tells me that I can add 2 tablets of this product called 'BeFuran' from Aquamedi. The specs says that the active ingredient in it is Nifupirinol Thermopore Sheet In Pakistan. Work immediately; Many times more effective than antibiotic; Prevention & cure for internal and external bacterial infections, fungal & parasitic diseases" :-? :-? He says I can also add "Azoo Anti-Bacteria" tabs which according him is very good. In the specs of this one, it is also said that I should do a partial water change after treatment and that its for "internal & external bacterial diseases such as red mouth, tail & fin rot, columnaris, septicaemia, dropsy, scale protrusion, eye protrusion, wasting disease and tuberculosis which are caused by gram positive and gram negative bacteria. OR, should I just ignore this intelligent fella, add water, dechlorinate and then cycle ? Maybe we need a doctor here !!! I am getting into this terrible habit of disbelieving my LFS friend on everything he says since he repeatedly missed his deadlines. Maybe the fella is just buying more time from me by confusing me since I did nothing like this with my 80G setup :x :x
