  • First ever proper detail

Well, I thought that my :ds3: deserved to be kept in the best possible condition so I dived in at the deep end and did my first ever proper wash and detail, over Christmas. I trawled through a lot of the previous posts for information, but the hardest part was deciding what things to buy, there is just so much choice. Anyhow I ended up spending a little bit more than intended at Halfords, Polished Bliss, Elite Car Care and Frost Car Care After a lot of mind changing I settled on the Blackfire Wet Ice Over Fire Kit in which you get a polish, sealer, wax and a quick detailer spray.

I started with a bubble bath in the form of Elite snowfoam and then a 2 bucket wash with a Carpro merino wool wash mitt and Farecla G3 bodywork detox shampoo.
The paintwork was decontaminated with a Farecla G3 clay mitt and Frost Care Care Zero iron fallout remover.
Finally I gave the paintwork a good rinse down and dried it with a Chemical Guys woolly mammoth.
I then hand polished the paintwork with the Blackfire Gloss Enhancing polish and the chrome bits with Autoglym Super Resin Polish.
To get the best possible base for the sealer and wax I cleaned the paintwork and chrome with Carpro Eraser to remove any polish residue.
Next up was a single coat of Blackfire All Finish Paint Protection which is a synthetic paint sealant and 2 coats of Blackfire Midnight Sun Carnauba Paste Wax.
The exterior plastic was given a coating of Raceglaze Colour Enhance Trim Dressing.
Onto the wheels, I took each one off to give them a good shampoo, decontamination, polish and a couple of coats of Wolf's Chemicals Nano Rim Sealant.
Finally the glass was cleaned with Frost Car Care Ice, polished with Frost Car Care Clear and finished with the Frost Car Care Lotus sealer.

About a week later, I started on the interior, with a couple of coats of Gtechniq C6 Matte Dash on all the plastic parts.
The leather was cleaned with Dr Leather Advanced Formula Leather Cleaner and protected with 2 layers of Gtechniq L1 Advanced Leather Guard.
Finally the mats and carpet were treated with Gtechniq I1 Smart Fabric.

It took a while doing all this, but I will admit that I really enjoyed doing it. For normal washes I got the Frost Car Care Pure shampoo which comes in a very nice glass bottle with a cork stopper. Every few washes I will go over the paintwork with the Blackfire Quick Detailer spray which helps the wax last longer. One last thing, before anybody says anything, I forgot to dress the tyres and the wheel arches might be a little bit dirty
