  • Black rear bumper and lower running strips no longer black

    Hi Folks,
Can anyone advise me as to what product to use to return the exterior black parts to black. I gave the DS a good clean and polish to stave off the Winter weather and after a month or so the polish seems to have leeched over the black, now streaked whiteish. Looks horrible, please help. Thank you, Phil

I suggest some black paint ^^.

Or wax, or oil. All work well, paint will last longer

Sounds like old wax rather than polish, and it's pretty tough stuff to shift. Don't use paint though, I don't know how serious the above suggestion is, but don't do it...

I would try gently heating the surface with a hair drier first then using a glue and tar remover, followed by a good claying.

You will need to give the area an extremely good cleaning with a strong All Purpose Cleaner type product. Stardrops from a local supermarket will suffice.

This will get rid of the streaks but after it has dried, I suggest using a trim restorer to get the black parts darker and to form a light protection on there. Regular use will then build up the protection.

I also advise against using paint on the areas too.

This is good stuff if you can get hold of it

Peanut butter is to restore faded trim, not clean stains iff it.

There's me thinking you eat the peanut butter and cook with the vegetable oil, haha each to their own.

I know this is inviting some comment but I have had great success today in bringing the side strips back to their original colour by rubbing them with a cloth and some Johnsons baby oil. I tried this early on today and this evening the black colour is still fine, hope it lasts as it is easy to use (and makes your hands nice and soft at the same time) !!
The idea came from the fact that my wife uses this to remove permanent type lipstick so I thought it worth a try.
