  • :-( chips on door edge

    Treated my 10 day old DS3 to some Autoglym products today and persuaded my husband to help me clean it only to find some chips on the edge of the drivers door!

    Am gutted as have tried to be unbelievably careful!! There's no dents and the chips haven't gone down to the metal so I'm just wondering if I should just use touch up paint or whether I should pay a company like chips away to come and sort it.

    It's the nicest thing I've ever bought and I really want to keep it looking good for as long as possible so I'm just worried a bad touch up job is just going to leave me feeling as blue as I feel right now!

    Do you think touch up paint would do the job OK? Do I need to get into wet sanding etc or do you think the touch up paint and some Autoglym SRP would do the job?

    Any tips/advice most welcome?

      Thanks Matt! Touch up pen ordered from Citroen today so pick it up Weds.

      Will give it a go on Thurs as I'm working from home. Going to see if I can buy a fine paint brush too to apply it. Will give it a few small coats to build it up then go over it with the SRP at the weekend.

        If you apply 2-3 v thin coats with a small, good quality artists brush to just fill the chips, you will not see them.

          it should come with tiny brush like a tip ex bottle for you just to dab. aslong as you dont have too much on the brush youll be fine

            Thanks Inreverse! Will try to be patient and go for 3 or so thin coats. Gonna feel so much happier when I can't see them anymore!

            BTW Chips Away quoted £35+VAT to come out and basically just do exactly whil I'll be doing so definitely going to give it a go myself.

              Personally I'd be taking it back to Citroen as a car that's only 10 days old shouldn't have chips like that unless you have been extremely unlucky. - it could be a symptom of poor quality paint job. I'd get it checked out either way.

                    Would love to see the results on your car, to see if I can bother to give it a try.

                      You wouldn't get anywhere. Impossible to prove that the door didn't come into contact with an edge, besides chips are excluded from the paint guarantee anyway.

                      ====

                      Furryjen bear in mind that the touch-up pen is a generic batch colour. My suggestion first is to try some out on a clean piece of card and let it dry and then compare, normally you will need to adjust the colour in order to make it match your colour batch better. Use a little bit of silver paint to light and black to darken.

                            Lol! Sorry didn't realise this thread had picked up again!!

                            Pen was just under £8 I think! Also bought some fine paint brushes from hobby craft! Did a decent enough job which is now hidden by the door protectors I bought. Will see if I can get some 'after' shots on tomorrow!
