Ixtar GLASSCOAT <Renault>

So, my dad pointed me out on this thing. It's called IXTAR GLASSCOAT, and what it does is put a protection film on (like wax) but the difference it this one should last for 5 years. (Wether it works or not, I have no idea)

So far as I've seen, only Renault-dealers/garages apply this product (atleast here in Belgium) and it shouldn't matter what brand of car U drive.

In a week or 2-3 i'm heading back over to my friend to get my car re-polished (after the wax was off I found some minor swirls etc...) and I might consider getting this protection film done on my car. Depending on the costs and if it's actually worth it.


Has anyone else ever heard of this? Is it worth doing?

Whilst I don't know this particularly brand, it fits into the 'never have to do anything again, your car self-cleans' marketing hype category in my opinion....

So, in my opinion, in three words, no, no and no!

Basically these things add another 'layer' that layer can also get swirl marks on it! Sure it might be hard, but so is the original clearcoat. So you can add twenty layers and the top one gets swirls on it, you've still got swirls robbing your car of gloss and deep reflections. Bad wash technique = more swirls.....irrespective of the top layer on the car......

Often Britemax or the other makes in the UK, to be fair, are ok products in themselves, but dealers don't machine the car first (so they seal in swirls when they apply it), they rush it, (it's not supposed to be done in an afternoon, most dealers do it inside a couple of hours applied by the YTS lad)....the margin is massive...

Ah well, point made, my advice is no.....
