  • Chrome strips?

    Hey guys,

Was cleaning the car today and noticed that I could not for the life of me bring the Chrome baguettes to a good standard.
they seem to have almost water marks or similar.
    Any tips?
    What do you guys use?

    Many thanks
    Willsy

They are not actual chrome either- they are chrome effect plastic!
They will wear over time (Bit like a mirror)

No plastic film, just looks kind of like dried on water spots that wont come off.
I thought they might be plastic, that was the only thing stopping me using chrome cleaner... Seems a bit cheap lol

Use something like Autoglym SRP, that always brings them up a treat when I use it.
Iv noticed I get similar marks that don't always come off through my normal wash process but a quick pass with SRP brings it all up nicely

if thats the Autoglym polish- not marvellously impressed
Yes- it cleans and shines the paintwork
But you get a white residue left over everything that isnt the paintwork
IE the plastic trim, aerial base, wipers, chrome effect stuff, window rubber etc etc- and if its black plastic trim it looks well tacky
Good for something like the bonnet

OK SRP is great but the trick is majorly 'less is more' - they have recently bought out a new formula which dusts much less (to be honest the previous one was good, just people tended to put way too much on).

I posted some FAQs on using SRP a while back.

It is a filler laiden all in one polish (meaning it offers some protection (wax like properties) too, it isn't just a polish).

A lot of 'valeters' like it as it makes a car appear great in a fraction of the time that full machining (which us detailing nuts like to do) takes - however it is not a permanent correction. That said I would never be without it, it is a very versatile product and behaves even better via machine.

It will bring the chrome strips up nicely, you should not need to rub too hard.

                  Regards,
                  Clive.

Thanks guys, they look much better now like new almost.
Clive do you recommend using the SRP and then waxing or is just SRP is ok?

Hi Wilsy, for the 'chrome' I'd just use SRP. If you just do another quick wash / dry and need to remove some marks from the chrome strips I'd just give them a quick wipe over with SRP......

                      Regards,
                      Clive.
