  • Autobrite UltraSlick Sealant - Morning Dew Beading Shots....

After my mini write-up of Autobrite UltraSlick Sealant the other day, I thought it was worth adding some morning dew beading shots!

My thoughts after a few days driving since applying Ultraslick - well the car is remaining cleaner than usual as I don't think much is sticking very well to it - it's sliding off and rain is almost giving it a mini-wash when driving!

All being well I'm going to add another layer this weekend.....

Early Morning Beading Shots - Autobrite Ultraslick Sealant:

    Regards,
    Clive.

Very impressive Clive, what was your method of application, microfibre or cotton pad?

Oh Jim, what a thought, I'd just have to off-road it as I do the 4x4 - but it's unlikely anyone could develop something that keeps the top level of bling without regular detailing - thank goodness!

Hi Andy, I did one panel with an applicator, then changed my mind, and took a very soft buffing microfibre, and sprayed the panel directly very lightly, then immediately spread it with the microfibre, turned it over and buffed it with the dry side (you've got 8 'sides' of the microfibre to play with when using this method) - this is the same appllication approach I would use with a quick detailer after washing the car. To be honest the ultra slick didn't really need the buff with the dry side but I couldn't resist.

I would rate this product very highly for those of you who want a decent finish 'very easily' (it isn't as 'warm' as wax in my opinion but I'm pretty fanatical on the finish, and it is purely down to personal preference, but it is very, very good for the ease and speed of application. I anticipate over winter it will add some good protection too for those of you who don't want to wash your cars regularly - as I always say though, remember that finish you see is also because it is going on a well prepped polished surface from it's machining last year. You're guaranteed 'beading porn' though if you use this product whatever your prep underneath is like!

I'm interested in others views as it affects what products I show to and recommend to you lot - my approach is the easy and straightforward ones for you all generally

ps thanks to Quazzo to, you posted as I was typing my reply!

            Regards,
            Clive.

Right- I have no idea when you wqould use a sealant...is this instead of wax, prewax, post wax or what?

Generally Sealant is used instead of wax, it is effectively a 'synthetic' wax - polymer based or similar. In this particular case with UltraSlick you can put wax on top of it if you want - so you have the added layer of the sealant as protection under the wax, but I have not done that yet (I'm not sure I will, it doesn't quite fit right in my mind, lol). So a sealant is a last step product, just like a wax is - it can follow a polish (you don't have to polish). Sealants work best on a 'clean' surface as in containing no previous wax or similar products - if you look at my previous post when I applied this, I used a product to remove any previous wax on the car first.

In my experience the difference between natural waxes and sealants is in the look - sealants tend to look very 'clinical' a clean but quite hard look (damn, sounding like one of these wine people on TV, describing a wine!, not that I drink, just it's hard to describe). Waxes are far far 'warmer', producing deeper gloss. Both are very good and in my case I change them for the fun of it. If I were recommending, I'd say sealants suit very light colours better, waxes warmer deep colours, but either are fine on any colour, it is just down to preference on the look and type of finish. The same rule applies though, any last step product can only look great as the quality of the finish underneath, swirls are swirls are swirls, if they've been removed then the beauty of the last step product comes out....

I think when I do the next DS3 for someone I'll explain more so they can decide whether to go for one of my waxes or sealants route....

                Regards,
                Clive.

Feel free to do mine any time, your detailing results are stunning.

It's made me look into getting some proper cleaning products, instead of just going down to the jet-wash.

Hi there and welcome - I see you've gone for the same colour combination I have...

OK my only initial advice is don't use a sponge or a chamois on your car, if you go to the jetwash, don't physically touch the car with their brushes, these will swirl it up horrendously and being a deep colour it will affect it even more (swirls distract from depth of reflection and therefore shine/gloss).

Take a look on www.detailingworld.co.uk if you're interested (I'm the same username on there) and start by checking out the 2 Bucket Wash Method.

It's not what I do for a living but I do assist with training courses (I've got a group next Saturday) and I machine polish cars for fun (luckily people want to pay me too!).

Enjoy, any questions feel free to ask or PM me, happy to help.

                    Regards,
                    Clive.

                              Clive,
I have gone for the autoglym products, is this ultrabrite product in effect the same as the Extra Gloss protection, or would you use it in addittion, have to say the beading from the ultrabrite product does look excellent. Over the winter want to ensure there is protection but also a quick wash ( I know you probably think that they dont exist) will get most of the grime off quickly. Any advice gratefully recieved. Like other posts, your guidance is costing me momey!!! Many thanks
                              Paul
