I'm after a machine polisher/waxer so is it worth going for an expensive one or will a cheap £30 do the same job?

    Thanksss

Clive's the man in the know but from what I've read orbital polishers are a little tricky to use and they can do more damage than good in the wrong hands. People tend to reccomend a DA polisher for beginners as they are a little bit more forgiving

      Thanks Lee..

      Hi Rick,

That one isn't worth it - there's much better about for not a lot more - you could get a decent DA polisher second hand for not too much more.

Quite happy to have a chat if you fancy it, could write a whole book here on pros and cons of different polishers...

      Regards,
      Clive.

Ebay and amazon have nothing under 'dual action polisher', well nothing under £50. Only thing that comes up is the 'Meguiars Dual Action Polisher Version 2' at £150 >.>

By hand it will be -.-

That polisher you've linked to in the OP is pants, it wont achieve anything more than what you can already do with your hand (it'll just do the job quicker). Get a proper rotary one - so long as you're willing to invest a good afternoon/day the results are brilliant (and the results will last ages if you clean it properly).

I got the new car, I just want one because its metallic paint and getting it to shine will be a lot more worthwhile since the whites don't shine so much, and I primarily want it for waxing really, since I am no good at doing it by hand...

What are you using it for? Corrective polishing or just buffing? If it's the polishing id invest in a half decent DA to start with unless you have plenty of spare body parts to practice on with a rotary.

If it's just for buffing wax then I'm not sure about cheaper ones but something like the Megs G220 does the job nicely with the Lake Country foamed wool pads.

To be honest though I always wax by hand and just use the DA for corrective work (I don't yet have the ball to go full rotary!)

                        Hi Craig,

Let me know when you want to go rotary, would be good to get a fellow detailer up to rotary in here (I have a nice Flex, love it! and a couple of other machines)....

ps for any reading the above, when Craig mentions Lake Country foamed wool pads, they are made of foam.
Wool pads, despite what you might think, are very aggressive at removing clearcoat and not for the feint hearted! (if anyone is mad enough I can explain why in a few paragraphs, lol)....

I've had my heart skip a beat on some six digit cars with wool pads!

                        Regards,
                        Clive.
