  • Cleaning the 'chrome'

    Hi,

Was cleaning the DS3 today as it is the only time the sun has been out since Xmas! When I got to cleaning the chrome strips on the side of the doors, I noticed odd marks on them. At first I thought it was corrosion
but when I looked closer and started to pick at them it turned out to be dirt and probably road salt. Now iv
tried everything to remove these marks but they won't shift. I know it's dirt because iv picked at it with my nail and it starts to come off.

Any ideas on how to get rid of them? Normal car shampoo isn't doing the business and I've ałeady tried
maguirers car chrome polish but all that does is make the chrome shine not remove the marks.

    Thanks

I did look through the forum but all I could see we're people wanting to know how to make them shine again. I can do that
it's the dirt/'limescale' that's the problem in removing.

        Thanks.

I had the same problem I used window cleaner funny enough and put a bit of muscle behind it and it came right off.

Auto glym SRP and claying worked wonders for me!

Hi SRP for sure - except on the 'real' chrome - i.e. the exhausts...

Chris - sounds good, I like a quick ten hour clean myself. Recommend you top off the SRP with a decent wax though to seal in all your hard work, as SRP is an AIU and it doesn't contain much protection in its own right.

I'm looking forward to doing some more enhancement details for members on here, single stage machine, can just about fit one in, in one day...

                    Regards,
                    Clive.

Maguires Gold polish is good to get rid of those marks, but I know it's a real pain as every time this winter season I have
had this problem myself it's just a shame they are not made better :-(

Supagards' tar and bug remover kit did it for me today, all tar removed even big bits! and odd blemishes on chrome strips. she shines!!!.......then it snowed.
