See this earlier thread Mark that I did

See my results last year regarding Imperial. Do, do though buy a foaming spray head. Makes a massive world of difference.

Been after producing the results of something like this for a while now so I thought I would let you see the differences (or maybe not) in 4 different and differently priced wheel cleaners.

The test involved 4 wheel cleaners that are currently in my collection; obviously more are available that can be purchased before you all say "what about this one , what about that one?":

    Astonish Wheel Cleaner - 99p 750ml
    Auto Finesse Imperial Wheel Cleaner - £24.95 5L diluted 1:1 to equal £2.49 1L
CarPlan Wonder Wheels Hot Wheels - £4.00 500ml
    ValetPro Bilberry Wheel Cleaner - £24.95 5L diluted 1:1 to equal £2.49 1L

The HotWheels and the Astonish however are more readily available on the high street than the other two which do need to be purchased from a specialist detailers supply shop or online.

Wheels looked like this on Friday after being cleaned with AF Imperial, decontaminated with IronX and then sealed with PPWSAS:

Didn't look like that anymore after this weekend so first up is the Astonish that hadn't been used since my Mrs bought me for 99p; she thought any wheel cleaner is like any other wheel cleaner.

Using the Astonish on the front offside alloy (intentionally using the lesser makes on the front wheels):

Very watery and not clingy at all:

Brushes didn't seem to generate much foam but did bring up the dirt:

A rinse with a jet wash revealed this finish:

Using the Auto Finesse Imperial on the rear offside alloy:

Diluted 1:1 with distilled water using a foaming spray head:

Very foamy, obviously the spray head doing its job:

    Dirt starting to shift:

Definitely shifting it now with the least effort:

A rinse with a jetwash revealed this finish:

Using the CarPlan Wonder Wheels Hot Wheels on the front nearside alloy:

    Nice and foamy:

    Nice and clingy:

A rinse with a jetwash revealed this finish:

Using the ValetPro Bilberry diluted 1:1 on the rear nearside alloy:

    Quite foamy, great smell:

    After agitating with brushes:

A rinse with a jetwash revealed this finish:

In my opinion, the Imperial shifted the most dirt/brakedust with the least effort, maybe due to the foaming sprayhead.

The HotWheels is the worst smelling, is the clingiest and also has the added advantage of being a contaminate remover (none to shift today though as alloys were IronX'ed on Friday)

The Bilberry is the best smelling and was quite foamy from a standard spray head

The Astonish was the most watery and required the most effort with a brush hence why it is the cheapest.

Per litre the costs were as follows:

    Astonish £1.32
Auto Finesse Imperial diluted 1:1 £2.49
Valet Pro Bilberry diluted 1:1 £2.49
    CarPlan Wonder Wheels Hotwheels £8.00

My order of products taking into account price, ease of use and finish and it's a win for the

    Auto Finesse Imperial

1st Auto Finesse Imperial Wheel Cleaner

Joint 2nd CarPlan Wonder Wheels Hot Wheels & ValetPro Bilberry

    4th Astonish Wheel Cleaner

One that I didn't review at the time was this from Bilt Hamber

It is a fantastically easy product to use and not only cleans the alloys but decontaminates them like Iron X does.

Another decontaminating wheel cleaner and the only one I have not personally tried is Sonax's Xtreme Wheel Cleaner

This video shows the effectiveness of the Sonax used in conjunction with another essential product, the Wheel Woolies

cheers andy i have been looking at the valetpro bilberry wheel cleaner on cleanyourcar but they noly seem to do it in 1l ? i have a foaming head form the wonder wheels ive used in the past. i liked the wonder wheel but found i was using a bottle every 2 weeks so something i can dilute would be more cost effective (edit) found the 5l one

The Bilberry and the Imperial are both dilutable. You could have two spray bottles at the ready. One with a higher strength for really dirty alloys and a weaker strength one for a routine wash. Good price that at CYC for the 5L Bilberry. Don't forget to use DW05 discount code at checkout for 5% off.

Cheers for the review Andy, found a reseller here in NI for Auto Finesse products. I bought 5L of Imperial Wheel cleaner and some Auto Finesse Iron out. Also grabbed some Wheel Woolies (of ebay) and Autosmart Tardis from my local Autosmart rep.

Full clean was in order this morning.

          Jet washed/hose down.
Snow foamed with Meguairs Hyper Wash,
          Jet washed again,
Muc Off Uber Shine and Meguiars Lambs wool wash mitt(two bucket method)
Wheels cleaned with Wheel Woolies/ Meguiars Microfibre Wash Mitt and Auto Finesse Wheel Cleaner.
Auto Smart Tardis front back and sides of cars paint work.
Jet washed and washed again. Quick dry with PB Towels.
Auto Finesse Iron Out one body panels and Wheels.
          jet washed and dryed.
Workstat Prime/Micro Fibre Pad, Buffed off with PB Super Buffing towel.
Workstat Jett/Micro Fibre Pad, Buffed off with PB Super Buffing towel.

low an behold my car was imaculate for all of about 10 minutes before the rain came on!! I would have done another coat of Jett Sealant, but weather wouldn't permit

I must say I'm also impressed with 3 new products I am now using.

          Auto finesse Imperial Wheel Cleaner.
          Auto finesse Iron Out
          Wheel Woolies.

          Thanks again for the review.

Great post Toxic. Glad you're liking your new goodies. Your method described is great for minimising swirls.

For the Wheel Woolies, I now have a third bucket filled with shampoo and water with the Woolies left to soak in there. Spray the Imperial onto the wheel and leave to dwell. Agitate if need be then take Woolie from the bucket and use on the wheel. Great results guaranteed.

Yep used a separate bucket too for wheels as they were quite dirty this week due to all the salt on the roads.
