  • Hello! and Bike Racks

    Hello! I am Sam, a DS3 fan!

Iv had my DS3 for a few months and am looking for a rear boot mounted bike rack, for 3 bikes for it... and struggling!

Saris have 2 options that fit the DS3, the solo and gran fondo, neither of which cater for 3 bikes, and not sure the gran fondo would fit a mountain bikes tyres anyway!

Thule have 0 options, after emailing them I got the following response:
Unfortunately we do not have a rear mounted solution for your vehicle. We have tested our systems on your vehicle but they were deemed unstable sure to the spoiler/lip at the rear. We suggest you look at tow bar or roof mounted carriers. Our carriers will fit any standard UK 50mm tow ball.
I have had a search on these forums but havn't found much of use!

I don't like the idea of roof mounted bikes...they always look incredibly wobbly and you cant see them whilst on the move. And tow-bars are just incredibly expensive when I have no use for it but a bike rack.

Does anyone have any ideas of a 3 bike rack suited for the DS3, that ideally is fast to take on and off such as the Saris Bones RS or Thule Raceway?

    Thanks!

I'd also like to know what options are out there that DS3 owners use as i'm after a rear mounting bike rack.

What model DS3 do you have? I have a saris bones RS 3 rack that I used to use on my Pug 206 but have not tried it on my DS3 as I have the DSport and I think the spoiler sticks out too far - I haven't wanted to risk it to date, but wonder if it might be ok on other models - I'd be interested to know if anyone else has used this Saris rack on the DSport - otherwise I have a £200+ rack that will be looking for a new home!

I also have a DStyle, Yeah I think the spoiler is the main problem based on Thules email back to me, I also emailed saris who gave a more generic, just no it doesn't fit, and they confirmed the Bones RS doesn't fit any DS3 also. And yet they all seem fine with the C3! I guess its the price we pay for having such a cool car :P

And roof rack and bike mounts...yeah people say they are better, but just driving through a car park I can see the bikes wobbling around like jelly up there! Doesn't fill me with great confidence!

Well Citroen are useful....I emailed and asked if they recommended any rear rack carriers that would fit 3 bikes as I don't want a tow bar or roof rack and am struggling to find a suitable one...they replied with reasons why you can only carry 1 bike on the roof and told me to get a rear carrier if I want to take 3 bikes...gee thanks >.>

That's strange as the roof is rated to carry 70kg.

If anyone finds this useful.. I found one!!

                          http://buzzrack.com/galleries/beetle...-bike-carrier/

my opinion... well, it fits, and it is damn solid on the car, no movement on it at all, even after 150mile trip.

Just be careful about it scratching bike / car , and it is a bit of a faff to mount every time, like all these things I guess....and finally, turn the auto rear wiper off!! luckily it didn't burn my motor out!

                              Very interested in this thread.

Am fortunate enough to be picking up a new DSport next weekend.

Am curious whether SamDs3Fan is still satisfied with the Beetle Trunk Rack? I like the look of it, but wonder whether the straps leave marks, over time, wherever they come in contact with the car?
