  • Should I buy this? 2010 DS3 DSport THP 150

    Hello guys,

    I'm new to this forum.

I've been searching for a DS3 DSport (Petrol only as I'm only doing 5 miles commute) and I come across this.

    http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...s?logcode=visc

The dealer can do me a bit of a deal and I'm really tempted. But after searching for 'THP engine problem', I'm now slightly hesitant.

One side of me thinks: go on, it's done almost 60k miles, so whatever problems it has would be fixed by now.
the other side of me thinks: It will go bang one day, you just don't know when

I can't really afford the THP 155 now so should I wait until I've saved up enough for the 155 or just get this one and hope for the best?

Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi Feefeelong- welcome to the club

Some earlier THPs did have their problems, as your research has uncovered, but some had no issues at all. Friend of mine has a THP 150 with 45000 miles and never anything wrong except for a couple recalls.

I would ask the dealer (Via email so you get an email back) has it had any work done, timing chain and tensioner, and any issues with hesitation which could indicate carbonisation of the valves. Then its down to how much warranty- would guess 3 months which is standard for a vehicle this age. Oh- and try get a Grand knocked off that price.

If you buy, get engine cleaned throughout.

Its a great car when all is good.
    Good Luck

Ask the dealer to give you a print off of the warranty history on the car, this should settle your mind in regards to what work the car has had in the past.

Other thing to bear in mind is that you really want to buy something like this from a Citroen Select dealer so you can get that Citroen Warranty.

Price wise I doubt you will get a grand off as Chris suggests because the price is pretty keen to start with, that doesn't mean you should be able to get a little something off though!

Thanks guys for your quick responses.

The dealer is offering a good price on my part exchange and further discounts, not quite one grand in total, but close, that's why I'm tempted. I had a test drive in that and a Mito Cloverleaf, the THP felt quicker and overall better car.

They are offering 1 yr warranty, guess not the same as a Citroen warranty but at least it is from a main dealer, so better than nothing i suppose.

I will see if i can get the reports from them.

          Fingers crossed.

I'm always a little bit wary when I see a car advertised by a franchised dealer for another manufacturer. The question that springs to mind is why did the owner change to another make - was it because (s)he vowed never to buy another Citroen because of problems with the car? Could just have fancied a change, of course!

Having said that, just about the worst car I've ever had was an Alfa 147 bought at three years old from an Alfa dealer. . . although, after three of the bloody things I suspect an Alfa's going to be crap wherever you buy it!

According to the dealer, she bought a Juke DIG-T. Only she knows why she changed to a Juke. She had it from new, so if the car did have problems, she must be a very tolerated person?!

That's the thing with used car, you never know for sure. Maybe just trust gut instinct and take a gamble.

Hope this car worth the gamble!

                      Hi Guys,

I have put a deposit down for it and will be picking it up next week!

                      thanks everyone for your help.

couple more questions if I may:

Gen-3 Glasscoat - is it worth it?
and GAP insurance - anyone has any experiences with?

Will post some pics when I get the keys

                      So excited!

GAP insurance is well worth the investment on any purchase, make sure that the cover provides a big enough shortfall difference as well as which version it is, there are normally two - one for return to invoice (minus a few things) and the other is linked to finance.

When you get it remember the Photo Hoover needs FEEDING!!!
