Sounds like it could be the rivets rubbing, if so you need new brake shoes

Would go with above comments too, but thats heavy use for 13k miles
Dont let it go so long the discs get scored- then they will need replacing too

Thats dependant on use, and type of pad.
Did 21k on my first set of pads, never changed them, and part exed the car

Current ones have done 17k miles
Were checked at first service 4 months ago, on 13k miles, and they were 60% worn.

But i dont like slowing down unless i have too

As above, mine has just turned 21k miles and the pads are getting changed when I get paid next month, the discs have a bit of a lip on them too so don't think they're far behind either!!

If its metal on metal then pads and discs should be changed.

If the discs are only very slightly grooved, new pads can bed in ok. Depends how old the discs are

Are you heavy on the brakes- i mean do you brake hard and often?
Its not unheard of for brakes to be expired with that milege- and being where you are there may be other considerations like lots more grit around?

Are you sure its the brakes?

                          Doesn't the DS3 have a brake warning light/ sensor?
On almost every modern car there is a wire in the pads, when the pads get so low the wire comes out throwing a warning light on the dash

Didnt go off in a previous car of mine, (Xsara) new discs required on the front.

Ed- know the DS3 has a handbrake sensor, as the red light is on one of the gauges

Brake wear is the same as how long is a piece of string...

Everybody will drive in different manners which will all affect the wear and tear of the car, also bear in mind that modern components are as durable was they used to be especially pads.

Other factors will be heat/cold use of the braking system as well as foreign objects getting caught up such as stones stuck inside the caliper.
