Squeaky Breaks & Slightly Grinding - HELP PLEASE

Hi Guys, I'm new here. I purchased my DS3 back in Feb this year and my breaks are grinding/scraping (you can only hear this when it's silent in the car) also when the breaks are completely dry they squeak a lot when I'm breaking lightly, this is so embarrassing. I have taken back to the deal TWICE and they have said there is nothing wrong with the breaks or pads. Has anyone had this problem before?

Does this happen all the time or just after the car has been sat for a few days? I've not had it in my new DS3 but in my previous one if the car was sat for a few days, the handbrake would stick slightly and there would be a clunk on release, followed by slight grinding noise at low speeds and when braking.

I found that a good hard press of the brake to a stop (around 10-20mph to zero) would clear the noise and the braking wasn't effected. The noise only seemed to happen after it was sat for a few days and was more likely to occur after rain.

Assuming there's plenty of life left in the pads it problem may be caused by the pads sticking in the calipers or the calipers themselves sticking, a common problem. If that's the case all that's needed is removal of the pads, cleaning everything & lubricating the mating surfaces.

It could also be a problem with the pads themselves - you don't say whether you bought the car new or used, but if new all I can say is that I've never had a noise problem with the OE pads.

Sorry I bought the car used with only 10,000 miles one the clock. I've had the dealer strip down the breaks & pads and both cleaned which kinda works but after a week or so they start grinding and squeaking again.

As DaveB as said the problem is most likely going to be the application of some copper grease on the back of the pads, as for the grinding noise you are going to hear some some of friction noise when you brake in the car. The grinding noise could be from surface rust on the discs from when the car sits overnight is nothing to worry about as this will clear after a short run in the car.

If you are in any doubt then I would suggest having the system looked at by other agent for a second opinion.

Not what I meant! I meant lubricate the surfaces where the pads mate with the caliper, so that they can slide freely. It may be necessary to file the pad edges to make sure that they don't bind in the caliper. The caliper pins should also, of course, be free to move.

Personally I never put copper grease on the back of pads.

Best cure for that is give 'em a good hard workout!
