Private number plates

Anyone know how long it takes for the DVLA to sort out putting a private number plate on retention?

I think mine took a couple of weeks back in April/May last year.

It takes around 2-3 weeks to organise a retention, a transfer can take up to 6 weeks.

Best bet is to have the new car registered on a '64' and then once the V5c has arrived (normally within a week) send it off to start the transfer. That means you get your car when you want it rather then waiting for paperwork to arrive.

My car will be registered on a 64 plate, but the guy said I needed to send all the paperwork off to put my private one on retention because my old car needs the old number plate on as it's going in as part ex. (Apologies if I'm being stupid haha)

I sent mine last Thursday next day delivery haha! But took photocopies of everything I sent. Spoke to the guy at the garage today and still pick my car up Monday so I'm one happy bunny .. Money hasn't come out of my account so guessing it hasn't been processed yet!
