The 2nd generation THP engines with the dual vanos camshaft technology, courtesy of BMW, do offer marginally better protection from the issue from excessive carbon deposit build up on the inlet valves, this is down to the variable valve control (lift) of the inlet valves, 0.3 - 9.5mm of valve lift, this precise valve lift control, offers no vacuum at idle or light (cruising) throttle openings, this reduction in vacuum offers no available draw of the crankcase gas mixture through the internal rear individual inlet tract venting passages, allowing all the crankcase gaseous mixture to pass through all the troughs, traps and valleys incorporated into the camshaft cover, before taking the very long route, into the air intake stream pre turbo, so you can get an idea of the internal passages of the THP engine I am referring too, I've included a picture to help.
