  • Bye Bye DS3 ... Hello Cactus

I can hear the screams of "Nooooooooooo"

A change in commute means we will massively overshoot our current mileage allowance on our DS3 lease, and we find ourselves needing a slightly larger car.

So we have given up all that the Ds3 gives and will be swapping it for the quirkiness of a Cactus. It seems to Polarise opinion, but have driven one and had a good poke around, we really like it and suits our needs and budget.

The BlueHDi100 engine is much better than I feared. On the motorway commute my wife does, handling and performance is a non issue. The ability to cover 27k a year in comfort and peace is key.

Mr Biggie will no doubt be able to confirm but the salesman thinks the new range of engines have 16,500 mile service intervals which will suit us. I can't find any info on the web about this though, assume that the newness is the reason for the lack of info?

The DS3 has only ever seen a dealer for servicing, and been as reliable as any car ive owned in the 23k miles it's covered. The only hassle was a recent service where the dealer claimed the discs were worn out and needed replacing for £260. Having had them measured by another garage using a micrometer with me present, it seems they are both 50% worn with 21mm left of the original 22mm thickness on both sides.

If anyone wants a July 2013 Ruby Red Airdream 115HDi DSport with 23k miles for £10,500, shout out as it's being px'd in in the next couple of weeks and will no doubt be appearing on their forecourt for more than than.

Nothing wrong with swapping your car for ones that meets your needs
I quite like the Cactus, especially the "tablet" dash
    Hope you enjoy!
I don't understand how you can sell or px your DS if it is a lease car though?

I've not decided if I like the Cactus yet, although I'm looking forward to hopefully giving one a test drive at the dealer day on the 19th.

Good luck with your new car and don't forget to post some pics when you have it

Just pay off the outstanding balance on the car. Basically making an early balloon payment less any interest rebate (it's on an Elect3 pcp).

The Cactus we are getting is quite subdued in Shark Grey with black Airbumps. The wife wanted purple but appreciated I may be uncomfortable when I drove it having to wear a paper bag on my head.

I love the Cactus. I'd have one but I don't know if I could put up with the slower speed than the DS3.

I agree the Cactus is a real Marmite car, it doesn't appeal to me but good luck with it - will you post pics when you pick it up ?

When looking for an economical small Hatchback, we couldn't find anything that we like and hadn't even considered or let alone looked at a Citroen. We saw the Ds3 and instantly knew it had that something that made it stand out against the crowd.

The Cactus is slower not as well equipped, doesn't have the stunning Ds3 dashboard but has that something that made us smile and feel comfortable with letting the Ds3 go.

If I was driving it daily maybe I couldn't live with the deficit of grunt, but the wife drives it 95% of the time on a motorway and doesn't mind. If I was younger and without a child and dog, it would likely not appeal to me.

I think the Cactus 🌵 is a smart looking car. When we bought our DS3 I thought it was the best looking car in its class. Our local car dealers being mainly Ford,Vauxhall, BMW, Audi and Skoda only the Audience A1 being as attractive. I've had my 5series for 13 years and am blown away by the 90hp diesel DS3. We had an issue with the passenger seat tilt and slide and the 1.6 petrol courtesy car didn't have nowhere near the punch of the diesel although 30 hp more. I think the only car I'd consider next would be an A1.

                              Love driving my Cactus!

Got the Moonlight Edition at the moment with all the toys in Pearl white with chocolate airbumps, looks the business.

Your chap was nearly right, on the BHDi100 the service intervals are 16,000 miles or 1 year - which ever is first.
