  • Is this dealership taking the mickey....?

OK, so a while ago I posted a thread about my DS3 1.2Vti being recalled for an engine fault and Citroen stating they would replace the entire engine. The car is a lease car and the issue was picked up at a routine service. Within 3 days the engine was delivered and fitted. Then the fun started.

On the way home after the fitting the car overheated and I had to pull over - stranded for 3 hours waiting for the RAC. The mechanics had failed to fit the radiator coolant hose properly, all the coolant fell out of the car hence the overheating. The RAC guy attached it properly and refilled with coolant etc, but when checking the engine noticed that a vacuum tube/pipe on the top of the engine casing has been snapped when the engine was changed, and rather than being replace it had just been bodged with some tiger sealant.

I rang the dealership to complain and they half-heatedly apologised and said they would order a replacement part and fix it. This was now 5 weeks ago, and every time I ring up the part is 'on back order' and I 'will be contacted' when it arrives.

It is reasonable that they can get a whole new engine in 3 days and can't get a plastic pipe in 5 weeks - or is genuinely how parts ordering works? I can't believe wherever in the world this part is it would take 5 weeks to be delivered to Harrogate.

Any knowledge/experience of these things? Are they just fobbing me off hoping I'll go away? They were obviously keen to replace the engine and bill Citroen for it, but won't be getting anything for fixing their error?

    Many thanks.

Parts like the small pipe you need will seldom need to be replaced, so they most likely won't be a stock item at any point in the supply chain. Having said that, any part should be available within a few days.

What he said but when it comes to specialised parts some items have to come in from France which can take a while. We had a C-Crosser which needed a new ECU which took 8 weeks to arrive....

Hi guys, I appreciate this is probably not a regular - do think it's reasonable that this part could have that kind of delay? Unfortunately I don't know the exact part, but the RAC guy said it sits on the top of the engine casing and helps create a vacuum which is used by various systems in the car. Basically I'm trying to work out if pushing them will help or just annoy them. I'm giving the lease car back in a month as I'm leaving the job and don't want to give it back with something broken on it.

        Thanks for your replies.

If the car's running OK with a temporary fix I wouldn't consider the replacement part urgent. Continuous phone calls to the dealer's parts department are really just wasting your time & theirs.

personally id give it back broken, its a leased car, and not your fault and is out of YOUR control.
