  • Sticky Valves... woo

    Well,

My THP DS3 has got the dreaded build up of carbon on the valves. It is in the garage now and they say it will take up to six weeks for the part to arrive to repair my car! Apparently they need a special machine from Citroen to do the job?

I could wait the six weeks if they could give me a courtesy car but they wont, only when the car actually gets repaired will they give me one. The car isn't really save to drive as it has been causing issues pulling away, at roundabouts and picking up speed. Not a happy chappy.

I have emailed Citroen UK in hopes we get something sorted.

    Any tips?

Jeeees. How long? Mine was diagnosed on a Friday, booked in for the following Wednesday for 2 days (Nice Cabrio for couple days) then collected late Thursday night.
All seems good, then left for Belgium 6am Friday. LOL
    Thats faith for you :-)

    Good luck

I'd call them, Although the emails are normally a quick reply from Citroen they will ask more questions, so if your after a quicker action i'd recommend calling Citroen UK directly :-)

Maybe call your dealer, say your not happy with the wait, and ask them who is the nearest dealer that has the equipment to carry out the work
Then make an appointment with them, even if it costs a gallon or 2 of petrol.
        Just a thought

Just spoken with another dealership, the one i bought the car from. They have the stuff to "chip away" the carbon so I am taking the car over to them this afternoon to be looked at on Monday. Woohoo.

Fingers and toes crossed. What is the process to repair it, if you know?

Theres various ways they tackle it from spraying stuff into the area affected, to an engine dismantle to clean
They do have equipment similar to walnut blasting, which doesn't involve removing the cylinder head.

By the sounds of it they will be blasting it off. It will be away for two days while this goes on! How successful is this method?

Can I ask the O.P what fuel do you run the car on?? Super unleaded or standard 95 Ron?

Do you also tend to run the car around town or do you do mostly motorway miles?

Blasting is pretty effective- just costs, which you dont want every year or two

It is 100% effective at removing carbon from the valves (if done properly), pictures of before and after have been posted on here numerous times.

Just standard fuel, may give super a bash this time around but fuel is expensive enough! I do a mix of driving, the car has done 17000 miles and she is 11 months old.

You will find super unleaded will give you better MPG so the couple pence per litre difference is offset.

I refuse to run any of my cars on unleaded on either my 2.0TFSi Golf GTi or my THP 1.6T DS3.
99 octane is my 1st choice, then if not possible VPower 98.

Paid £1.59 a litre for super unleaded on M1 motorway once- would've driven off, but was running empty
Prices come down a fair bit recently
Mine at 18,800 and 19 month old when valves needed sorting, so your not alone ;-) and that was all super unleaded!

Also , these engines will give better performance in terms of power output and improved throttle responce.
Mine has done 21k and im guessing its been run on 95 by its previous keeper, im gonna put some winns EGR cleaner down the Pcv pipe to try soften up the carbon build up, then give it the Italian tune for about 10 miles down the motorway to see if that improves my mpg after it.

if not Terraclean in the new year.

Hmmm so the super doesn't help the carbon then. You have had another 7 months on me i suppose... but i have not done far off of your mileage. Chris, have you ran the car on 95 and felt a difference?
