  • Turbo not kicking in

Hi, as the title says really! I've noticed the last few days when I drive my car the turbo just isn't kicking in at all so it's extremely slow and sluggish, I just wondered if anyone knows what could cause this? TIA

Had this myself just before the winter, late last year, after I'd done an oil change
Confirmed the loss of boost by Torque pro app

Had a prod and poke (DValve) with all the connections- and Turbo came back on again
    Hadnt worked for 2 days

    Probably knocked something

Would have disconnected/ reconnected the battery for the next stage- but didnt need to

Shame the adapters for this are so expensive!

I tried to look as much as I could but couldn't remove anything as all bolts etc are painted because its under warranty and they are really funny about it. I've booked it in for Wednesday so hopefully it will be a quick fix.

Make sure the connector on the DValve is secure- think thats what mine was
(Mine was under warranty at the time- but CBA to take it in unless it hadnt gone back to normal)

Problem is, my day to day laptop is at the menders, probably gonna be cremated, so havent got access to all my photos including ones of the engine bay

From memory the Diverter valve (Recirc valve/blow off valve) is located to the front top of the engine, slightly to the right hand side above the Turbo
Theres an electrical connector on top of it which can get wobbly

Will see if i can dig a pic up- or if you can post one , i will point it out

The diverter valve wiring can be seen about a fifth of the way down on the right hand side of the photo
The diverter valve (Also called the recirculation valve or blow off valve, type dependant) sits on the side of the Turbo

This photo is 90degree angled, so that the headlight direction is to the right hand side
The air intake runs along the top

Suggest you check all the connections around the diverter valve when engine cold, even remove and replace the connector

I fiddled a few times before the Turbo worked
In fact all the wiring was fiddled with that could be found LOL

I'll have a fiddle with the wires then, see if that works thanks. I'd rather not take it in but if anything needs to be removed I have to otherwise invalidates warranty and they check everything!

Dont be too nervous about the warranty- unless youve got a big "This has been remapped" sticker on the ECU

They havent taken much notice of different wheels/tyres. lowering springs, Cat back exhaust, decals, bonnet vents, front splitter and a few other little knick knacks dotted about, on mine.

Had a mysterious rattle on a different motor a few year back, so took it in on warranty
All that hassle booking in, time off work etc etc, and it trurned out to be a loose bolt on aftermarket horns i had fitted. LOL
Felt a bit of a twat- so now I always have a good wiggle and poke around before booking in

Even disconnect the battery so everything that resets.
                      Good luck

They are really bad with doing warranty jobs at my dealers and if they can get out of it they do. They had a go at my husband for using a code reader. Even though there was a fault code apparently there was nothing wrong and told me to go home, luckily they didn't wipe the ecu so we got the code up and had a go at them! We had to basically tell them what was wrong with the car for them to fix it then they tried to get out of fixing it because of voiding the warranty! I only had the car a couple of weeks so he told them if they didn't fix it he wants the money back and they can shove the car where the sun don't shine, but that's when they marked all the bolts and painted bits on everything so we can't touch anything without them knowing. He has always done things to cars with warranty and never had a problem it's just where I go, they're idiots!

I did try the wires but haven't taken it out any more yet so will see if its worked tomorrow, thanks

Drove it yesterday and fiddling with wires didn't seem to work, but the management warning light and a fault came up then boost came back just before I got home, typical! We plugged in code reader and there's actually 3 codes and one of them was that the timing belt had stretched, is this a common problem? The car has only done 30k! Just taken it down to garage and my husband told them what the codes were, they were not best pleased about the codes and thought it would just be a loose wire or hose! I'm waiting for a call later on today, I'm just hoping they fix it not just tell me it's fine now but we'll see...

Wow- your dealers certainly seem draconian to say the least

Showed my dealers how i found out fault codes on mine- nothing to stop you plugging a laptop/ OBD2 device in far as i know

                            Maybe take your car elsewhere?

I know! They didn't say anything this time about using the code reader, but it was someone different we spoke to who seems a lot better.

They can't do anything until 12th jan because they need it for 3-4 days and I need a hire car. so they have wiped the code and told me to carry on driving it and if anything snaps or brakes they will accept liabilty and get everything fixed. But when i take it back they said they are going to take it all apart and measure the belt to see if it has stretched enough for them to fix it! Surely if the code has come up it obviously been stretched enough for it to be picked up on and needs to be changed!
