Just posted this on citroens page. Will never buy a citroen again!

DO NOT buy a citroen! My citroen ds3 is just 4 years old, only done 18000 miles and ive had to spend over £1300 on a new computer system for the car as the original suddenly failed. Does this mean after every 18000 miles I am going to have to spend another £1300?!? This should not be happening on a new and low mileage car. Plus the scare it put me through, driving down hill with a 3 month old baby in car and suddenly get messages appearing on the screen telling me the braking system has failed, engine has failed, the power steering suddenly going etc. Please everyone considering a Citroën, please stay clear!

What do you mean by computer system failed? Take you mean the BSI?

I also take it that you never opted for an extended warranty with for the car after the 3 year guarantee expired. I can understand your frustration at having to spend money on your car but unfortunately these things happen and to be honest there is little Citroen can do about it.

Without all the details it is hard to pass judgement or even agree with you but I do know that the internet is a wonderful place to vent your spleen if you pardon the phrase.

Failure in cars in not exclusive to Citroen and as a vehicle owners we do have to live with the thought that at some point our pride and joy is going to let us down at some point, that's just life I'm afraid.

If it makes you feel any better the airbag system in my beloved Alfa failed requiring me to replace the entire system which gave my wallet a fright, but rather jump up and down screaming like a little child I just bite the bullet and got on with it.

I appreciate you've had an issue with the DS3 but that's not to say all DS3's are likely to suffer the same fault.

In the 5 years I've been active on this forum, this is the first instance of a complete ECU failure I've seen. Your claim is probably best dealt with in a small claims court; under the sale of goods act anything sold must be fit for purpose and not be rendered unusable within a period of time you'd expect it to be working.

I would argue that a cars ECU failing within 20k miles and 4years of ownership that you probably have a case to build against Citroen.

All I know is my little Citroen is way more reliable than the very expensive Mercedes-AMG I had. What a piece of crap that was. To give it it's due it was brilliant when it worked just wasn't very often. These things are often very frustrating, good luck with whatever you replace it with.

Im not jumping up and down like a child... Ive had a few problems with this car that ive had to sort out in the last 2 years. I just think after just 18000 miles things like this which is no fault of my own and the other problems shouldnt be happening so much... Its really off putting.

You can't blame Citroen for the failure of a Bosch (yes, they're German!) component. Failures like that happen on all makes of car.

I had a Fiat 500 from new and the amount of money I spent to keep it running from brand new was unbelievable, all known faults well advertised in the forums but Fiat took no responsibility for anything and NOTHING was ever done under warranty. I'm sure there is no such thing as a 100% reliable Alfa but owners "expect" niggles but love their cars all the same.
Sounds like a Friday afternoon car you've got which is a pity because they really are great cars and "generally" reliable

I spent ££££s on my Mini Cooper S. Cars are money pits. It's luck of the draw and it sounds like you got a bad draw, but that could happen with any manufacturer. Complain to Citroën.

Had my first Ds3 for 18 months, did 65k miles, didn't even replace a lightbulb.
Had new one 20 weeks, 18k miles, still fine, as new.
I think you've just been unlucky, all the best in whatever you decide to do.

There's no harm in discussing it with the dealer you bought the car from or Citroen UK if you have no luck with the dealer

I'm probably pushing my luck here but 70,000 miles in over 4 years and only problem was a sill nearly falling off twice. Says more about my driving than about Citroen though

Ah, the Alfa "head in the sand". . . it's not crap quality, it's "character". Been there, done that!
