  • Bug in the headlamp....

Picked up the car on 7th jan and didn't notice until today but in the drivers side headlamp is a daddy longlegs (sorry don't know the technical term) its under the plastic and pretty dead, he is white so guessing been in there a while. Part of me is thinking ignore it, but then another part is thinking how did it get in there, wondering if there is a problem with the seal around the light, everything looks ok, or f the bug has got in at the back? Will the dealer think im an idiot taking the car back for this?

The other thing and I know its a common thing as all dealers do it, I wish they would leave the car in its natural state, now its rained and a bit of bird poo, I can see the motorway scars on the car, any recommendations of someone who help bring the car back to its new status, hopefully without too much outlay? Couldn't see any of the marks before.

On the positive I love the drive of the car, the kit and how comfortable it is to drive and the nice bit of power when I need it!

Take the rubber protector of the back of where you change the lamps, then get a vacuum (Henry) in there (Maybe a hair dryer first to the break the Daddy up ) then put Henry on full pelt to suck out the bits- thats what I would do first- and yes, I'd feel a plonk going to the Dealer for that.

But hey- you are you and me is me

Yep, I was thinking perhaps there was another problem as how he got there in the first place, never seen one in the headlamp before.

Anyone know if a portable vac would have the power? 4th floor flat so the extension lead is a bit epic to get to the car lol!

I've got a dead moth staying in my headlight. Can't get it out, so I just enjoy it's company when I take it for a ride.

I don't think a portable vac would get it out - sorry, difficult to tell without pics though.

I'd probably try and stick a long pencil (or plastic straw in the light) wrapped with sellotape to see if you can reach the daddy long legs, stick him to the sellotape and then withdraw him that way

Just make sure whatever you use is delicate enough to not damage the interior of the light and that the sellotape won't fall off inside

Thats the advice a car valeter gave someone i know who had a similar issue
              Worth a try

Daddy could have got in there when the rubber seal was off last time round

i posted on here years ago with a fly in my head lamp. hoover wouldn't fit. i ended up getting a air line to blow it into a different position then using a pipe cleaner with tape on the end.

Think yourself lucky, my other half has a 2005 Corsa and you have to remove the grill and front bumper to change the headlight bulbs I think we need to offload it before the lights need changing again.... I now understand why Vauxhall charge over £100 to change the bulbs

You should probably just get rid of it on principle and get her a DS3.

                              Ha ha - cheers mate.....

She'd be quite happy with that although her current faves are an Audi TT (new shape) or an Evoque which are poles apart really
