Welcome Steve, We have already delivered two DS3's to driving schools in Moray and they tend to be popular with the students!

First time I have heard of a GPS speedo, i imagine this is more or less the same technology used in Sat-Navs / Snoopers right?

I got my beautiful White (Black & White edition) 1.6 HDi for my driving school. . My pupils love it and find it easier to drive than my C3. The supplying Citroen garage fitted He Man controls but they are not as nice as the ones on the C3 - when you see how they are connected to the driver's clutch pedal there is a flat link bar which transmits the movement to the left pedal - this is a proper bodge as its angle changes in relation to the one it is connected to and it pivots on a bolt with a nyloc nut on it. This is totally bad engineering as it should be a ball joint of some kind to allow for the change of angle. One day that bolt will probably wear through and break! You want to stick your head under there to check it out when you get it - or a friendly mechanic if you are not that way inclined.

On week in and the clutch started slipping really badly on a lesson. I took it to the garage straight away and they found a nyloc nut on a bolt had tightened itself up by being in contact with the face of the link bar it was connecting to another. This must have been too tight in the first place for this to happen (their admission). The problem came on progressively but the clutch was slipping like hell by the time i got to the garage - I had to drive a few miles on a dual carriageway to get there. Now I wonder how many normal miles of use that has taken off the clutch.....the biting point seems to be a little higher than it originally was so I am a bit p***d off really - all through someone not doing his job right in the first place. What bother me is if the clutch starts slipping prematurely before two years of keeping the car are up. I am gonna point out that it wont be from the use it will be getting, even as a learner car. Maybe I am paranoid but its not a nice way to start off with only 400 miles on the clock!

I got the car on finance by trading my C3 in. They gave me £7000 for the C3 (£5000 cashback and £2000 towards the finance) and I am paying 24 instalments, after which the car has a guaranteed trade in value against a new car deal, or I can buy it for that amount if I want. Getting five grand and a new car seemed ok to me as the money will nearly cover the payments over the two years -- although i don't own a car outright any more. Having said that it is a business proposition and you expect to pay a certain amount every month for a car.

                        Hi John

                        Thanks for your reply John,

With BSM at the moment so you guessed it I'm teaching in a petrol Fiat 500 as a car is great but totally useless as a learner's car.

If you don't give it gas you stall, not stalling it is a skill in it's self and the indicator have a mind of there own.

Decision to lease car as it is my first car as a indie instructor, being given GPS speedo but do you really need it.Can see speedo from 40mph upwards without moving head.On the Fiat can only see from 50.

What type of fuel economy are you getting per lesson.

Maybe sad but just spotted red velour mats for car on Ebay.......

Car mats Mmmmmmmm. I used the old ones out of the C3 (i got them on ebay)!

I took the car out on a 50 mile mixed run the night i got it and got 60mpg. By the end of the first tank it had done 49.5, partly me driving it but with quite a few lessons as well. Since that fill it was doing 44 and has just gone down to 43 because I have been up some long hills! It seems to be doing slightly better than the C3 but a lot depends if you are around town and doing manoeuvres or going out of town. With the price of fuel I am constantly trying to make my pupils eco-aware when it comes to driving habits. It also makes for a nice relaxed, stress free driving style.

The He Man speedo I like a lot! I really cant see where the needle on the dash speedo is pointing at anything below 50mph from the passenger seat. They give you a bit of stick on reflective sheet for the windscreen but the display is bright enough that you don't need it. It can also be read from the driver's side. You can adjust the GPS thing so it reads accurately with the car's speedo when maintaining a steady speed although there is a bit of delay when increasing or decreasing speed. The instructions are a bit crap - I couldn't understand how to set the different speed settings but you don't even need them anyway. My website is www.thwaitesdrive.com if u wanna take a look. I have only got showroom pics of the car as yet since it has been tipping it down nearly every day since i got it!
