  • I'm ready to buy!.....I think

Hi all. I've been lurking here a couple of weeks so thought I'd register and introduce myself.

I've been on a right old journey to get here - on the verge of ordering a DS3.

I've had my current car for twelve years which I bought brand new and I've been looking for it's replacement for at least nine years! For one reason or another though I've never managed to get around to it. Maintenance costs are now starting to increase though and as I spend a fair amount of time driving between Nottingham and Cornwall, I thought it was high time I put my hand in my pocket and bought something.

I first noticed a DS3 on the A30 when I was returning from Cornwall. It had a real presence on the road. I didn't manage to get a very good look though - it was in a hurry!

In the last few months I've been to look at a wide variety of cars, Civic Type Rs, Seat Leons, Minis and so on until I finally remembered that stunning little car I saw on the A30. Off to the Citroen dealer I went and was sold on a DS3.

Initially I was looking for a decent used but the spec I wanted (then) was in short supply so started toying with the idea of buying a new one. That was until last week when I read a few posts on here relating to quality issues. One post linked to a review on Honest John which listed all kind of dramas including unfinished paintwork. It felt like at that point I was back to the drawing board and started once again looking at Civics, Minis and now the Audi A1.

I went out yesterday and sat in an A1 - I hated it. I sat in a used Mini (new ones are too expensive) - it was ok but not in good shape. I sat in a DS3 - loved it....again.

I'm sold again then. So at least I have the vehicle narrowed down, now all I have to do is decide between the DSport petrol or diesel. Whilst I do have occasional 300 mile trips to Cornwall and back, I don't do a lot of other mileage. So whilst the economy of the diesel would be great for the long journeys, would that be at the expense of the fun I could have with the petrol.

Once I've decided on the engine, it's just the toys left. I've decided I now don't want the factory sat nav. I would like the folding mirrors and other goodies that come with the City Signature but looking at the options pack spreadsheet I downloaded from here earlier, it appears that this removes the USB socket. I thought from what I'd read on other posts that you only lost the USB if you chose the sat nav.

City Signature is listed as "Automatic digital air conditioning + Automatic illumination of headlamps + Automatic rain-sensitive windscreen wipers + Electrically heated and folding door-mirrors + Interior mood lighting + Electrochrome rear view mirror + Rear parking sensors + Front central armrest. (NO USB socket)"

I have an iPhone and quite fancied being able to hook it up through USB so I just have to decide if the advantages of the other goodies outweigh that loss.

At least I know what colour I'd like - I'm going for white with a black roof and black wheel........I think!

Hi And Welcome To The Club !

Great Descision Choosing Over The A1 + Mini !

In Regards To Your USB Query Its Something Alot Of New Owners Get Confused About.

Basically With The DSport You Get The USB As Part Of The Standard Hi-Fi System. But If You Choose The Sat-Nav You Lose The USB And Are Left With The AUX Socket ( This Plays Your iPhone Music But Doesn't Charge ).

Its Best To Stick With The Hi-Fi System Me Thinks Unless You Get Lost Alot ? Haha But Hey Thats What TomToms Are For !

Your reading the table wrong friend, you only get the USB socket with the Connecting Box option which is standard on the DSport.

          Hi Meanteam - welcome aboard!

So you've been looking for a replacement for 9 years? and I thought I was King of the Procrastinators!

The number of DS3 quality issues reported on here have been very few & far between for a new model, tbh - far fewer than on many other owners' websites. Don't let that put you off - it's what warranties are for.

            Hi Mean team,
I think given your driving requirements, the Dsport Diesel is the engine to go for. Yeah sure you probably wont have the sound out of the petrol engine to brag about but you do get 50mpg all day long no matter how you drive it. Also Diesels have oodles more torque than the petrols so overtaking and general acceleration is a sinch. Remember Torque is pulling power. BHP is top speed. Then if it's remapped later on you also get a 30-35BHP gain in performance on top of all that. Not sure if you have ever driven a modern diesel as you have had your current car for 12 years but you will be suprised by the performance once you get used to the slight change in driving style. I once vowed I would never own a diesel when I started driving many years ago......I am on my third one now and most of my families cars are Diesels.

            Hope this helps.

Wow, so many replies, so quickly! Thanks for the warm welcome.

Jimbob, I think you hit the nail on the head, it is definitely my heart telling me to go for the DS3.

I've just washed the car, I'm off to the dealer! I may be gone some time.

I've done it! I've actually ordered one! I will no longer have to drive the car I've been driving the last twelve years!

Once I'd finished agonising over which car to buy, it was now time to agonise over which engine. I took everyone's comments on board and actually ordered the diesel yesterday afternoon. I was then looking on the net last night and everywhere I turned it seemed to be saying that the THP was the best buy. One review commented that the THP is the pick of the bunch, however if you were to buy the diesel you wouldn't be making a mistake. AAarrrghh. Hours and hours I spent last night trying to decide if I'd done the right thing. By the time the call came in this morning to confirm the order, I'd changed my mind. I've gone for the THP. I understand it's going to cost more in road tax but still less than I'm paying now. Fuel consumption is also likely to still be better than what I'm getting now, so why not get the one I really want?

So, 1.6 DSport 150 THP in white, with black roof and black wheels with the City Signature pack is the final decision and the order is now with Citroen with an expected delivery at the end of March/early April. How am I going to pass the time??

That's awesome! Great choice there. The THP still gives very decent economy and insurance & tax costs and does get fantastic reviews across the net. I am test driving a THP tomorrow, could very well have one soon too. Colour options sound spot on! Gonna feel like forever until she arrives!
