All weather tyres- What are the better ones, best price options?

Anyone recommend an all weather tyre for the Bellone wheel?

2 years ago, after many a discussion on here, I went for Pirelli Winter Snowsport 240 (Pair) on the front, and Vredestein Wintrac (Pair) tyres, and got them as quality used (Or were £130+ new each )

Would you believe they haven't actually seen any snow since I put them on, but a few weeks before there had been about 5-6 days of 8 inches of snow lying around (Stuck on M23 overnight for 10 hours)

They are now down to about 2.8 mm, and beginning to slip even in the wet
Having had them on, now realise they are no good (To sell) with Winter tyres on during 9 months of non-wintery weather

So- Am gonna get a full set of all weathers, mainly for winter use, but which can be used all year round
Best to go for quality used? or brand new cheaper ones?, Spending around £250 for a set fitted

If you have winters with 2.8mm then they're done, they recommend changing them at 3mm otherwise you get the problems you have described. Personally I wouldn't bother with all season tyres, in that they are a jack of all trades and don't perform in summer or winter or were last time I looked into them. I settled on summer tyres, a set of tyre socks and being careful *touch wood* it's worked. I'd always get cheap new, as you don't know what has happened to used tyres. Chances are nothing has however it's not the sort of thing you want to find out in the fast lane of the M1.

2.8mm is the lowest of the four, but they are done, you can tell that when driving
Only expected them to last 2 winters as bought them on just over 5mm. This is the second winter.
Europe apparently, is 6mm leagal limit- that's why we get so many round 5 mm over here as used

Same in the UK. 6mm seems pretty high...

From here: "the legal limit in the summer for car tyres across Europe is 1.6mm but we recommend a minimum of 3mm as tyres wear quickly after 3mm"

Silly actually since every organization that has anything to do with tires or car safety recommends changing them sooner.

Must have got that wrong then, as it did seem stupidly high
Then again there are loads of imports from Germany especially, of part worn tyres bewteen 5 to 6mm

Mine were slipping all over the place this morning, and not even cold, only damp
Especially the old "Torque pull away" and not even trying

Have tried to buy winter tyres in summer (To get ready for winter) and they don't do them
So to be ready for next summer, want to get them fitted in next month
Scouring the web, you can get new all weather , and winter, tyres for as low as £60 a corner fitted. Not sure how they fayre tho

I only riun winter tyres (all year round) - but I live in Aberdeenshire where some years winter never seems to stop! They feel different on the car - a softer feel and last longer than conventional tyres and, of course, are essential in slush and snow. Ive never tried tyre socks but imagine they are a good alternative if you experience only occasional cold weather. I always buy from internet retailers such as black circles and get them delivered to a local fitter. All the normal makes and so much cheaper. Reviews too so you can judge whether its worth paying twice as much for a Bridgestone or Pirelli.

Just enquired with Setyres, and theyve said they can do a pair of "Evermax" all round tyres, suppiled and fitted (Assume balanced) £100 the pair

Was just doing the research myself, new to the market September 2014. Enough time to see if they suit UK ?
Cheap enough- its now that I try to grapple with buying a cheap all rounder tyre, which would be on the car for 5 month over the colder times
That's cheap. Hmmm :-(

Winters new are round £120 a corner for a good one, then people don't want them if you ever sell the car.
So an all rounder cheap new one could be the answer
