  • DS3 THP Remap

    Hi all,

New to the site and a DS3. Just bought it, loving it!

I have it booked for a remap tomorrow?

    Anyone suggest anything?

Is that essential after the remap?

Forgive my ignorance - but exactly what does remapping do? And how expensive is it?

Remapping is reprogramming the ECU map for the engine - The array of settings which tell the ECU what to do under what condition, such as run the fuel rich when engine is cold, or much fuel to inject at all.

But in most cases it's for more power.
Most manufacturers will sell their engines de-tuned from their absolute maximum power for reliability, or tuned for low fuel usage, to run on 95 octane fuel, and to pass emissions regulations.

Also, every engine will have slight variances with its construction. Some might burn more oil, some less, some might make more power than others. As I understand it, the stock tune also ensures each car has the same output power too.

A performance driven remap will simply push your engine closer to the edge.
Usually it means making the engine ECU place less of a limit on boost higher in the rev range, more aggressive ignition timing and adjusting the air/fuel mixture for high performance situations (richer at high revs/boost so as not to cook the turbo). All of these will increase fuel usage IF you thrash the car.

No idea how much it is over in australia, but you can buy a high end chiptuning box for around $1k (http://www.racechip.com/chiptuning/c...15kw/index.php)
Does a similar thing to a remap (though not as good). Instead of reprogramming the ECU it intercepts the sensors, feeds modified readings in order to trick the ECU into feeding the engine with more boost and an altered air/fuel mixture. This one is great if you want to keep your warranty. Just be careful what performance box you buy, there are many fakes out there than do absolutely NOTHING.

I'll probably get one of these after my warranty is expired for a little new car feeling.

Must of us (I think) go to SP Tuning in the UK to get Jamie (a club/forum member) to remap ours. Cost around £270 with club discount last time I looked, or £350 without club discount.

Not essential, but the fact that the performance filters are lifelong, and not made of paper as OEM, means that more air can travel through, helping the engine breathe better.
                You can clean them.

If you keep the car longterm, and like having the extra 1.6BHP, then why not
Most remapping Tuners would recommend a performance air filter

                Anything between £35-60.

Thanks for the detailed remapping explanation! I'll quiz my dealer and see what I'd be up for.
