Confusing dashboard message?

I was driving Roxy this evening and twice as I fired it up it flashed "key fob battery flat" and illuminated the service light. Yes the message should be self explanatory, but as it's not my car I have the gimp key with no buttons or remote. As far as I'm aware that key has no battery in it but it does not display that message when the fob key is used. It's also never displayed this message in the 8 months we've had it when I've been using that key.

Wondering if the other key actually a battery I'm unaware of or if it's the electrics being french?

My old car did that to me once, I took the battery out and put it back in and it was fine after that...

8 months/2200 miles also I'm not even sure the key I'm using has a battery in it!

Mine does this too I got told by my local dealer it's cause the car searches for the ignition key battery to do exactly what's it's doing to test remote battery level and because it can not find remote battery it presumes the battery is flat

That reminds me I need to find my spare key and check the battery is still good in it (never been used)

It's a perfectly logical explanation, other than I drove it for 8 months with the same key and it never displayed it, so either that function has been broken for 8 months and fixed itself or something has changed.

Nevermind 17 grand car and don't even get two keys that can be used without error messages..whinge whinge moan etc.

Nah... we don't need the extra power or costs, would be nice if Citroën spent an extra 20 quid on 2 keys with full functionality. It's never something I've come across, every other car I've known even if they didn't give you two fobs at least the lollipop key at least had remote controls on it, and now due to their cheapness I'm going to be greeted by low battery message every time I drive it...awesome.

Hmm... I take it that you both drive the car equal then? That might explain it better as the car is getting confused as it sees the master key and then it doesn't!

Not really she uses it most days, I only tend to use it weekends and evenings if we're going somewhere together. It's probably about 75%, 25% usage.

I could assuming I'm not dropping her off or picking her up, other than her keys live in the bottom of her handbagbut my keys live in my pocket, it is significantly less annoying for all concerned if I'm not waiting for her to rummage for her keys when I have one.

I know it's not the end of the world just rather winds me up when her last car an ancient micra had 2 identical keyless fobs, my suzuki swift had 2 keyless fobs, my mazda has 2flick keyfobs, but no the most expensive car of them all gets a second key with no remote locking capability that also appears now to be causing spurious warnings. Not a huge thing but just annoying.

I'm with you on this, I can't see the logic in only providing one key for non-DSport models other than for Citroen to save a couple of quid.
