A Little advice

Hi all
I'm new to this forum and I'm guessing this as been asked before. I've been looking at a 2011 150 D Sport that I really like but after reading some of the problems these have I'm not sure what I'm getting into, are they really as bad as they are made out to be.
Should I be looking at another model it needs have some performance.

I would like to here your thoughts.

I would steer well clear of the 150 if I were you. Numerous and expensive problems to fix when they go wrong. The 155 has solved most of the problems, but some still remain.

The fuel pump went on mine but luckily it was still under warranty. That's the only engine issue I've had so far. 4 years and just over 30,000 miles.

I had a June 2011 THP 150 and never had a problem with it. Part exchanged for a 155 after 24k miles
The real early 150's (2009/10) some had issues with timing chains causing the stutters etc, but they seem to have sorted it. Ask the dealer for history on it

If yours is good after 30k miles, it could be fine.

Benefit of a 2011, is you can remap via the OBD port. Almost wish I hadn't part exed mine, sometimes
And that's what you call performance, a remap, but then the position of possible problems, gets riskier

its done 20,000 registered 28.08.11 been well looked after.
Its only going to be doing about 3,000 a year Gut feeling is its a good car but if the 155 is going to be a better option.
It looks like its a bit hit and miss if you get a good one or not but that can be said for a lot of cars.

You should be OK with it. Ive been on the forum a fair while, and I always looked for issues with THPs and what sort of age they were
Funny enough theres been problems all the way up to May 2011, but the earlier the build date, seemingly more problems

Ask who you are buying it from, if there has been timing chain problems, misfire problems, temperature problems, etc etc
If its clean- I'd get it, depending on price

Your inlet valves may need a good clean- and that's round £250 from Jamie on here- but would last you another 20k at least

3k a year is nuffin :-)
In fact you will have to blast it now and again to get rid of the cobwebs

The fuel pump went about March 2014 so it was right at the end of the warranty. Very lucky! Since then, engine-wise, it's been fine.

Sorry I may have taken things the wrong way it wouldn't normally of bothered me always up for a laugh in the right place.
I'm just trying make the right choice and im not that familiar with the DS, I've had Civic Type r's for the past 6 years and fancy a change,but hard to get anything as reliable as a Honda, hence I come to the people that know and the information I have kindly received so far has been very helpful with my decision.

Hi Neil-s, welcome to the club. It is always going to be a little bit scary changing cars,especially one that has been so reliable, but sometimes you just have to make the leap. If it helps I made the change in 2013,having previously driven volvo's and Saabs, so I do understand your reluctance. I am now on my second DS3 in less than 2 years and have nothing but praise for them. Both mine were newer than what you are looking at,so the only advice I could give you is to go for the newest you can afford. There are some very good lease deals available at the moment if you like to change your car regularly.

Our 11 plate THP has been great, yes it's had new fuel pump and needed the intake walnut blasting. Other than that it's been spot on. Cost of these repairs isn't expensive either. I've seen a lot of THP cars here and none have ever had timing chains slip or such like. I'm sure it will give the Civic a run for its money too with a decent remap...
remap-that's something you couldn't do to a Civic

All sounding good, I've taken out a 120 which was a bit to slow for me,then tried 2 155 and then a 150 and I don't n know why but the 150 just felt a little better than the others for some reason.
I agree better mid range than the civic just not as good after that but I'm sure a remap would fix that.
When I first looked at the DS looked to have lot of problems, but after reading your comments I feel a lot happier about buying one.
