  • Would you ask for compensation?

    Morning,

So long story short I bought a 63 plate DS3 last Tuesday it was sold as having Bluetooth when I got home I went to connect my phone and it turns out it hasn't got Bluetooth.

Motor point where I bought the car from has agreed to pay me for Halfords to fit an aftermarket parrot kit the cost of this including fitting is £200.

I have to pay the £200 in advance as they cannot pay Halfords over the phone by card but they will then send me a cheque. I have everything in writing from them agreeing to pay so I'm happy with that.

My question is should I be asking for compensation as well as I bought the car expecting it to have factory fitted bluetooth and now it has an after market kit which obviously has to be mounted to the dashboard etc and will not be such a good selling feature as factory fitted?

I have already mentioned wanting compensation but the bloke asked me what I wanted and I did not know what to say so I said I will think about it.

What if any compensation would you guys be looking for?

    Thanks

Always ask for more than you are willing to settle for!
If you ask for Citroen products e.g. accessories, then you are more likely to get a good deal as they cost Citroen a whole lot less than they would cost you to buy.

    Happy shopping

You could use the point that you'll have to declare this to your insurance aswell to argue your case.

With JB on this, ordering citroen accessories/services is going to be more beneficial as the dealership is unlikely to part with much of it's own cash.

What extras didn't you take? Service, extended warranty, etc..?

There would be little point, the dealership as already agreed to sort something out with already which they didn't have to do in the first place. Any vehicle listing will have a disclaimer stating that the information provided is thought to be acurate but it is up to the buyer to confirm things. Where this changes is where is has been stated to you as a buyer by the seller and you have evidence of this such as a order form that mentions the item. Trying to prove otherwise through a court of law would just end up costing you an arm and a leg.

My suggestion then is to follow the course that the garage has levelled out for you with the addition of an after market kit.

And please let this be a lesson to ALL buyers that you MUST confirm and check first any equipment that you require to be on your next vehicle, if there is any doubt have it confirmed in writing.

I had it confirmed in writing that it had bluetooth. Motorpoint is a car supermarket not a Citroen dealership so they don't sell accessories.

I am really happy with the deal and customer service from Motorpoint. From the initial test drive to collection was a breeze and their after sales customer care team have been great and didn't bat an eyelid when I asked them to pay for the Parrot kit(MKI9200).

As Halfords are fitting the kit and supplying the receipt I'm wondering if it's worth asking for something else from Halfords? I need to purchase a decent car vacuum and they have a decent looking Black and Decker one at £50 or maybe cleaning products?

          Further thoughts please

At the risk of putting backs up...

Why would you want compensation? It's not like it's affected your life in a negative way, nor have you suffered any sort of physical or emotional hardship. They're paying for it to be retrofitted, which in my mind more then enough makes up for it. Why would you try and chisel more out of them? You've said the deal itself, and the customer service has been fantastic, so why go for more? I could understand it if they were messing you around and fobbing you off at everyone opportunity, but it seems like they've done the right thing here.

                No backs up here.

I agree in part but the way I am looking at it is I do not really want to have items mounted on my dash as it for one makes my car more enticing to theft merchants looking for a quick win by smashing my window. I wanted in built Bluetooth that I could control from my steering wheel controls. I was told it had Bluetooth, it doesn't. I except I should have checked it before doing the deal but with it being such a new vehicle I would have hoped it would be working so didn't check it. Yes they are putting it right the only way they can but that is what they should be doing. They are not doing me a favour, they are putting something wrong right.

I'm not suing their ass off, I'm not out for blood just thought a gesture of goodwill is in order.

He's having to go out of his way to have something fitted that should have been fitted to the car at the POS

He'll have to declare this to his insurance (technically)

If any future issues arise with the aftermarket device, it won't be covered under his Citroen Warranty and he'd need to take it back to where it was fitted.

To keep it simple I have emailed them suggesting a Halfords gift card would be appropriate as there are items I want to purchase for my car etc. I have told them to come back to me with a value they have in mind if any. I'll keep you posted.

                            Cheers for your thoughts.

Should I declare this to my insurance then?
