  • Time to part with DS3.....

After having the car for 2 and a half years now I've decided to sell up and get a new vehicle. However, it feels like they are offering peanuts.

I have the dstyle plus on PCP with mileage of 26k and it's a 62 plate. It has 4 alloy scuffs :-( i blame the high curb outside my house and not my driving.

I've been to dealers whilst enquiring for new cars. Mercrdes offered a measly £5,600 and Vw £6,600. Sites such as webuyanycar offering around 6,600 too.

I don't want to part with it as these prices. Whatcar etc suggesting more. Any ideas? Worth trying autotrader? Any other suggestions?

If it's PCP... isn't there a guaranteed future value? Although presuming you're exiting the agreement early?
Did you buy from a main Citroen dealer and is your PCP with Citroen Finance?
I may be wrong but I don't think you can just sell it to somewhere like WeBuyAnyCar. Would you be better seeing what your original dealer offer you and then just start afresh with a new dealer?

A PCP scheme is just like any other finance package when it comes to settling. The OP can sell it to whoever he likes as long as he fully clears the finance.

      Perhaps consider selling privately?

I have to admit the depreciation on the DS3 is a bit larger than I thought it would be, I normally don't care about depreciation as I just buy a car I like but I see the value of my car has halved in under 3 years which can be a bit of an eye opener. The worst depreciation period seems to be over after the 3 years though and it steadies out a bit after that.

Yeah will be exiting a few months early as not due till December. GFV is £6300. Tempted to hand it back to Citroen at the end of the 3 years but pretty sure there will be a financial penalty for the alloys. Not sure if anyone knows how harsh they can be on this?

I did ask the original dealer would buy the car back off me, but they have no interest . Yeah pcp with Citroen.

WebWebuyanycar - as the settlement is currently 7k, and they are only offering 7k for car in excellent conditions so by the time they see my alloys it would probably be 6.5k.

This is clearly the downside of pcp. May have to try private, how easy this will be I don't know. Let's hope i can sell by the time my new car turns up.

Gatecrasher - yeah deprecation has not been great. I remember the salesman telling me it would be worth at least £8k....never trust every word of a salesman.

Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not really sure what PCP entails.

But you ask for other ideas.

            Sell privately.

So technically you would have to pay the remainder off before you sell it. Selling a car privately with outstanding finance is a tricky business...

Manheim ( the vehicle inspectors) quoted me £65 per scuffed wheel when my Wife's Orla Keilly went back in April. Citroen then kindly wrote to us advising that they wee waiving it as a gesture of good will. This is more than Mercedes were prepared to do after my E Class went back with similar wheel damage, a miserly 15% was all they would agree to despite me just having purchased a new C Class with them. Bravo Citroen. Think I'll have a DS5 next time !

Unless you pay the settlement on a PCP you never own the vehicle so in that respect you are subject to the same penalties when it comes to any damage as with leasing. Meaning that you are responsible for the condition of the vehicle, I would suggest you shop around for a better deal on an repairs before trying to return the vehicle, this should save you some money and get a better price for the vehicle due to it's improved condition.
