  • Can I Have Some Advice Please?

Hi everyone I hope you are all ok..

I wonder if you could give me some advice please? Back in January/February I was searching for a DS3 and finally found one I liked and even put a deposit down on it..

Unfortunately that weekend I got rushed into Hospital and didn't think I would pull through never mind drive again.. Anyway good news I am pretty much great again now lol so am thinking of looking for a DS3 again..

I have test drove a D-sport THP today,, proper little pocket rocket but I have been told they can be a bit of a nightmare?

I just wondered if any of the Versions are better than others regarding Diesels,, the normal petrol 1.6 or Turbo versions..

I know its probably a daft question and I know there is good and bad in every car, some people will have never had a problem with one engine while someone else may have had nothing but problems.

I just wanted a bit of advice regarding what to look for with common problems and what you all think are the most reliable engines..

    Thanks in advance

Hope all's well with you. Not nice to have to go to hospital for anything major.

The only THPs that seem to have problems are the 150 and the Racing. I have a 150 which had to have the high pressure fuel pump replaced after about 2 years but other than that, it's been fine. At about 30,000 miles, a walnut blast is supposed to help keep them running smooth by getting rid of the muck on the valves. I don't think the 150 was around for that long though. After 2011 I think they changed to the 155.

          Thanks JB.

I am still looking and to be honest with the free RFL the diesel is starting to look pretty good..

I have a 90 diesel which I replaced my petrol Nissan juke with ,and it was the best thing I did.
No road tax and the fuel economy has saved me about £100 a month. Also I always have a smile on my face when I drive it.

As Jimbob says, the diesels are good. Where abouts are you Stuart? And what sort of a budget are you on. There's some good pre reg deals about, I found one on piston heads website a couple of weeks ago at Citroen Derby. Paid £14991 for a Dsport plus and when the log book arrived it showed me as first owner. I'm now on my second diesel, great cars.

Have a look on the site as there are some issues being reported with a small number of THP 155s now but as you say there are also plenty that have had no problems at all. Most common thing seems to be hesitation and this is then cured by a walnut blast clean. If you're happy to cover the cost of that when needed you should be fine.

I have a diesel and wouldn't change it - I do almost 20k miles a year and it's perfect for me with the zero road tax, great mpg and very torquey engine !

Even though I loved the test drive of the THP the other day I think being realistic with daily running costs it's going to be either the standard 1.6 petrol or preferably the diesel even if it comes with slightly more miles..

Hi Stuart, I'm sure with a little research and hunting around you'll be able to get a good deal that suits your budget. Happy hunting mate.

If I can be objective for a moment, get a 150, get Jamie at SP Tuning to square away a map and exhaust and you have 200BHP in a car that weighs less than a spunky tissue.
