Adblue

I called citroen today about needing adblue (I lease from them and it's fully maintained, so no cost)
They couldn't fit me in till next week, so I asked if I can take some and do it myself, told NO as it needs a special tool, is this true?

And then at the end they told me they have non anyway

Diesel additive level

This additive must be topped up by a CITROËN
dealer or a qualified workshop without delay

My diesel doesn't have adblue so I can't comment on whether it's a DIY job ?

Take out the spare wheel and you'll see the filler cap for the adblue tank. Use a funnel to fill the tank that way you won't spill any in the boot (will stink the car out if you do). The tank holds 17 litres so be careful not to over fill it.

This might be a stupid question but what's adblue?

The tank should be good for around 12500 miles so in theory it should only need to be topped up when the cars in for a service, although the service interval is now 16k.

I seem to recall it's made from animal urine but I could be wrong

What's the difference cyclone ? Isn't Urea obtained from urine (incl human piss) ? It can be made artifically too I believe...

Your handbook will give you the procedure to topping up but unless you have had the warning light I would suggest leaving it until the dealer can do it, UERA is nasty stuff and is slightly corrosive as well so you really don't want to be handling it if you don't have too.

Make sure you use the right stuff as listed in the book.

Adblue Is synthetic Urea and as Biggy says get the right one, there's a difference between the ISO number on the Adblue for cars and the commercial one used for trucks.

You're handbook simply says to use Adblue to Iso22241.

The farms I work at have huge tanks filled by tankers with Adblue to Iso22241.

The local motor factors where I buy my Adblue (£14 for 18 litres) only sell Adblue to Iso22241 and were not aware of any other type when I checked it was the right stuff when I first purchased it.

No special tools required at all to open the two sets of caps. Takes 10 minutes max and it as easy as filling your car with fuel.

It is very corrosive, so wipe up any spills after filling up.

Last week my car went in for its 16,000 service and the dealer wanted £40 to top up the Adblue tank ..... which I refilled at 12,500 miles. I politely declined their kind offer.

Reviving this thread.
I was thinking my car would tell me I needed AdBlue at around 12,500 miles like it says in the book, so I bought a 10L bottle from the garage. Still going at over 14k miles and still no warning light. Is this normal?
