  • Citroen DS3 Extended Warranty... Worth it for a 2012 THP?

My 2012 DS3 THP DSport with 38k on the clock has just had a bunch of replacement parts costing well over £2500 (Turbo, HPFP, Air-con pump and more). Luckily I've only had the car for a month so they did this all for free but considering it is a prince engine after all I'm seriously considering getting their extended warranty.

    They're offering me £895 for 3 years...

Does anyone have any thoughts on Citroens warranty? With these prince engines it's not really a case of me "Might needing it" but let's face it, i will need it.

It's a shame that I'm not going to go ahead with any modifications. I really wanted SPTunings 190bhp remap and a Milltek exhaust on which would be out of the question.

    Cheers,
    Danny

£895 is a lot...better off putting this towards your exhaust.
In 3 years if you have to buy a HPFP+timing chain+walnut blast still comes in a fraction cheaper
Or as an alternative the RAC do a warranty scheme which will pay out upto £600 in one year towards repairs.

Danny, is there a specific reason you are not going to mod the car?

Also, and this is purely from what I read on here, the components that are known to have been troublesome have already been replaced so as Jamie says the money may be better spent elsewhere.

I got the Citroën warranty on my old 2011 THP150 which was £250/year. Paid for about £400 worth of repairs in the first year. The fuel pump went in the standard warranty.

I'd go for it, you know something's going to go wrong...

Same here. I know mine will be in the garage again and it is not worth the gamble.

The THP enagine is plagued with faults and the timing chain is just crap. I had a new chain and tensioners replaced just over a year ago. Had to get a new tensioner and oil seal last week due to failure!

Because of this unreliability it will be my first and last DS3

Bluetooth connectivity issue at the two year point, fixed in a morning.
Limp mode at the four year point - Original 2010 HPFP replaced.
Stutter at three and a half year point, fixed with a walnut blast.
Clutch slipping at high speed, four and a half years point- my doing as the map probably didn't help.

That's the only issues ive ever had
Anything else was changed pre-emptively during servicing by my dealer at no expense to me.

I know what you mean, but the 155 is such a great drive. Things are always in the back of your mind tho.... whats that noise..... etc etc

When I get another it''ll just be for shows and thrashing round the track, only a couple Kmiles a year tops.

Well, I decided to hold off on warranty for the moment. The sales guy tried to start telling me "If you bought the car in just a week later you would have had to pay thousands of pounds" Which is a complete lie. Used car warranty from Hartwell is 3 months. I've had the car for about a month and a half now and 3 weeks of that is it being in the garage! I've only done about 400 miles on it due to problems. 60 of those miles are driving to the garage and back...

Tried to pick up the car today but they said no one from the service team were available today so i couldn't take it home... So frustrating.

It is fun to drive... I bought it outright for 9k. I'm 20 years old so obviously that was a big chunk of money for me but i wanted something nice for my next car. I'm thinking about selling it now and buying a Clio 172 or something for around 2k. No idea what i'd get for the DS3 selling private though...

I should have known something was off when i noticed it sounded worse on the test drive than my brothers 2009 JCW... Haha!
