Updated reverse camera??!

Been in to my local dealer today and was told by the service guy that an updated reverse camera is available, so it's being fit next week, however he didn't know what has changed.

So the question is, does anyone know what has changed?

The camera is being replaced rather than a software upgrade ? That's quite unusual isn't it ? I'd be interested to know what's been changed too

Yes new camera, which I assume will come with new software also.
I am hoping the lines show steer direction rather than static straight back like now.

Makes me think it's a lifespan or perhaps safety concern if they're changing the cameras as an "upgrade" maybe they're not v reliable ?

It's not being done as an upgrade as such.
When I first got the car I put LED bulbs in the numberplate, when it was queried at the service I said it was to try and help at night.
He came to me yesterday asking if I still had the issue, and hinted there is a new camera and if I wanted it I had to make a comment about being not happy with the camera to be able to get it doe as a warranty change.
So I think it's just what they will fit in new cars rather than a necessity to older cars.

It's just a different part number relating to the build point of the car, the camera was available on DS3 with the older eMway setup where the latest DS3 now has a different screen set up.

First things first there is no software update for the camera so you will see no change as your current system will just do what it did before, the other point is that the newer camera might not even work with your car as it was design to run on the newer screen (hence the RP numbers). But of course this id dependant on what year model you have.

Can I ask what the issue was before as it wasn't clear in you posts.

No issue as such, only night use is impossible.

So the issue is that when reversing in the dark the reversing lights are not bright enough to make the camera useful ?

I see, I wonder if the similar systems on luxury cars have cameras which adjust to the exterior conditions ?

Well since the camera doesn't have a night vision mode then yes the image is going to be pretty dark, not much you can really do about this if I'm honest.

The camera for the latest version is basically the same.

The updated camera was installed today, WOW what a difference for night time use.
