  • New DS3 DSPORT+ Owner and MPG question.

    Hi All,

Long time lurker first time poster here

I've just recently bought a 2013 1.6 e-HDI DSPORT+ with 16K on the clock which i love and am still getting used to all the controls etc

I've a question about MPG, i drive 17 miles to work each day 13 of which are spent religiously at 70mph on the cruise control and the last 5 miles at about 30mph and i average 43mph during the trip.

On my first tank i got 470 miles using the brim to brim method i calculated 53mpg.
Now im an easy driver, allways looking well ahead and lift of the gas when i see brake lights.

Am i being naive or should i be getting a bit more to the gallon.?

Thanks in advance for any pointers

I have the same, and my journey to work is 25 miles. Last week for the 250 miles done over the week my average mpg was 60 and speed was 34. I sit on the M6 at 50mph for most of it then when I can it's always spirited driving

    Other journeys:
175 miles covered 70.5mpg and 62mph - this was a lot of steady motorway

    653 miles 57.5mpg and 42mph

So my last one is similar to your 53mpg and 43mph.

Lots of things will affect it though, tyre's, road surface and air con.
    My DS3R3... nearly....

To be fair 53MPG sounds about right for the type of driving you are doing.

Hmm. Dont use AC so cant be that, tyres are almost new (Michellin Exalto 2's all round) and are at correct pressure.

It has been wet recently, im on my second tank full so will see how it goes.

Curious.. What does everyone else get to the tank.?

I get 300 - 450 miles (35-45 mpg) depending on how heavy my right foot is, not too bad for the THP with the AC on Auto all the time. I could probably push that higher but my current regular journey is 150miles each way and I'd rather not pay motorway services prices for V-Power.

If you don't want to trust the computer and you can't be bothered to work out your mpg every time, you can use Fuelly to track your fuel usage.

Please don't forget that so many factors effect MPG, what weight is currently in the car, tyres being used, weather conditions, electrical drain on the car and etc.

Just because one person get one MPG figures doesn't mean another will get the same.

Exactly, my previous DS3 (same engine) I got an average of 36.1mpg over 24k miles.

Here's some other DS3's to compare against: http://www.fuelly.com/car/citroen/ds3

My trip to work is less than 7 miles there and back and since January I've averaged 45mpg in my 110 ehdi. Most of that is town driving no more than 40mph any chance I get to go a bit further (like mine or my other half's parents house) I give it a good run to try and help clear things out still pulls like a train though and I haven't had any problems with it (touch wood) can't wait to remap it (keep saying I'll get it done but haven't yet)
When it gets on the motorway it's at home. I live in the very West of Cumbria and can get from there to Manchester centre and back (300 miles) in about half a tank :O and that's doing around 80mph on the way down and 70mph back up.
I've had my ds3 over a year now and it still puts a smile on my face, plus it's free tax

That`s how I felt when I got mine.....and it has got better and better Gatesy, the hdi and e hdi loves a long run preferably in 6th gear on the motorway to really shine, mine is still happy on a 30 mile round trip for the work commute, but I usually drive at 50mph in 5th gear, rest of the time I give my remap an airing,it`s great fun all the way.

                  OR:

Always, aircon off( except in Summer! ) , tyres 2.4 bar front/rear,windows shut and clean, use a higher gear when possible, keep over revving to a minimum, keep boot as empty as possible, don`t carry passengers, don`t have fun. Who am I kidding! I usually drive according to weather / road conditions and that`s it.

Managed nearly 65mpg from my latest tank full in a BlueHDI 100, and averaged about 61mpg over 2,300 miles from new so far. For me at least, 66mph seems to give a good mpg vs progress balance on the motorway - and I tend to just knock the cruise control down a couple of digits if there is a lengthy incline and then make most of it back up with 70mph or so down the other side until it flattens out, then back to 66mph. I'd suggest giving that kind of technique a go on your commute and see if you notice an improvement, as motoring up hills will definitely limit how much far into the 60's mpg you'll get in my experience.

As for town driving I tend to use the speed limiter set on 33 or 34, and stay in 3rd (5 speed box in mine). Although the revs are obviously higher in 3rd than 4th this seems to give better economy.

And with red lights, I could be completely wrong, but, unless I'm fairly sure the green is going to come when I get there I work on the basis that getting to the red light swiftly and stopping (and hence getting the stop-start to kick in) could save more fuel than coasting up to the lights with the engine running for longer.

Oh and here's my fuelly thingy:

I've had up to 790 from a tank, currently averaging around 600/620 from a tank. Think it depends on a lot of things - the routes you take, weather, temperature etc.

I get around 57mpg at an average speed of about the same mph on what I would consider to be a pretty economical route and gentle driving style... That's pretty good I think, despite hoping to get over 60mpg when I bought the vehicle.

I think this is an interesting real world comparison with Allblack's blueHDI 100 economy figures.

Heavy or Light right foot is the biggest factor in the long run, but at least the car will return respectable fuel economy.

Yep. Most people would find it difficult to match the official figures of any car in daily use without falling asleep at the wheel due to boredom.

That's bag on what I get for similar trips. If I keep it below 70 (long single carriageways or similar) I can push it up to about 60mpg
