  • Apple Car Play on the new facelift model.....

Does anybody know if you can get Apple carplay on exsisting DS 3 if you have the 7" inch screen? Noticed the new face lift model has it as an option for £100? Only just got my new DS3 in jan so just missed out on it!

There is a member on here who managed to get his dealer to do it. I'm crap with names so can't remember who it was but I'm sure they'll be along soon.

I think they updated the software on his screen but had to program something extra for the CarPlay.
It's not strictly an option that's available on our models so you might struggle to get it done.

Have a search for the thread on eMyWay crashing and I think it was first mentioned in there.

Hi Simon, I've just had Apple Car play put onto my2015 DS3. It was a 30 minute software job and the dealership did it for free. However, having now got it, I'm not sure it's worth having. Car Play drops out if the signal falls below at least 3G so it's frustrating, unless you live in a big city with pretty much a permanent 3G or 4G signal. It also disables the phone button on the media stalk so long as the phone is connected with the Apple power lead. I had it fitted for the maps screen but as it's no use for a journey (due to dropping out) then I have to say I preferred the Hey Siri function.

Hey thanks for the info its nice to know it can be done! Is the sny good advantages using it? Like can you send text messages from the screen? Or scroll through your albums etc?

Apart from the map screen I haven't found any function that can't be done by just connecting the iPhone with the lead and using the Hey Siri function (just call out Hey Siri and it responds to voice control, including reading, composing and sending texts by voice. I'd think hard before paying for it to be uploaded. I may get it removed in a week or two if I can't live with it. Cheers

Forgot to mention, when Car Play drops out you lose your music and phone connection too. The only way to get them back in use is to disconnect the lead and use a Bluetooth connection. Also, Car Play doesn't seem to kick back in again automatically when a 3 or 4G signal becomes available, you just need to keep trying to reconnect manually, which quickly becomes a pain and a distraction to driving.

Hmm i dont get why you need a phone signal for carplay to work if your just listening to music etc so does sound a bit rubbish. Do you get album artwork using carplay?

I'm on the road Weds and Thur this week so I'll have time to 'test' it a bit more. I'll update this thread afterwards and let you know how I got on with it. Cheers

Cool that would be great! Would love to know if you could text through the screen so if you was at the side of the road rather than get your phone out you could just reply using the screen. I do have good signal round here so it might be worth considering still.

I can answer that one now. With Car Play you can ask Siri to read new texts to you and you can dictate a reply text for Siri to send, all without needing to touch your phone or the screen. However, you can do the same thing without Car Play. If you have an iPhone 6, just plug it in with the Apple USB lead, make sure the Hey Siri function is selected in Settings - General - Siri - Allow "Hey Siri".

I would definitely be keen on getting this done but only when CarPlay supports Waze & Spotify!
