  • Overall Tyre issue's

    Hi Guy's,

First post, long time DS3 owner. Thought i'd ask the masses a question regarding tyres.

Having a spot of trouble the last few months. Had to replace 2 tyres (back ones) because of damage, one accidental, one not so accidental. (someone with a sharp object)
Excellent timing i know. When i got them changed they told me that my front two tyres had wearing on the inside track only. Tyre pressure was checked and was pretty much spot on.

Now i have to replace another tyre due to "pavement" damage. Has large chunk missing by the alloy wheel. I'm not hitting the curbs by the way i'm good like that.

Any idea why this is going on with the inside of the tyres if its not the pressure??

Oh, and a headlight went which was nice. 4 year old car now falling apart.

Any help would be great. Thanks all

    Welcome to the club

If the tyre pressure is ok then I would suggest getting your tracking checked, being a few years old it's very possible it's out and causing uneven wear.

      Thanks very much.

Every time I go to the the tracking place they tell me its nothing to do with it. They won't even entertain me by looking at it. I'm quite frustrated with it.
I'm due for a service and MOT in the next few weeks so I know this will be an issue!!

I'd find a new tracking place if I were you.

Despite the good advice already offered, I have a question; has the car with the issue of tyre wear, been lowered by any chance ?

Like BeefMasta said, I'd find a new tracking place. I've had my car tracked twice since I bought it 18 months ago. Try tracking it and see how you get on. Don't understand how there's a large chunk out of the tyre if you haven't curbed it though. Chunks generally don't just fall out of tyres lol

No modifications to the car like that. It is how it come brand new. When I got to get new tyres i get told off for the size of the wheels even tho they are car standard
which most people can't grasp for some reason. I have had a issue with vandals the past month or so. They like to mess with our cars because we live in a quiet street
right at the end of the road.

I suppose i'll have no choice but to take it to another tracker and hope for the best.

                What size are they? 205/45/R17?

Check the balancing on them too while getting tracking looked at.

Yeah that's the size. Not exactly a rare tyre size either. They just look bigger than they are.

I need to get mine done, never had the tracking/alignment checked and the car is 2010 model, never noticed uneven wear myself but now I'm running wider/bigger wheels/tyres its a double good reason to get them looked at I spose.

I know its a "how long is a piece of string" question but what's a rough price for checking tracking and/or alignment?

Depends where you have it done and which type you go for. I think last time I had it done (ages ago) it was £20 for a basic alignment. That was before all the laser technology etc so I'd imagine it's probably a bit more now.
