  • DS3 63 plate - sensitive steering

    Hi,

I'm new to the forum but need to ask a question about a 63 plate DS3 i have just purchased.

The steering seems overly sensitive so much that every bump or ridge in the road pulls on the steering wheel which if you weren't holding firmly would pull the car into the curb or centre of the road. I've owned any different cars in the past and this is the first i have driven which has this.

Is it a general thing with DS3's or could i have a problem ?

    Any advice would be appreciated

    Thanks

Have you had the track rod ends checked,if there is play the car is more likely to tramline in grooves in the road and veer into and out of potholes and ridges.I had that problem with my old C4,after the track rod ends were replaced car drove straight and true and like new.

I find my 208 lighter than the DS3, though maybe due to the small steering wheel.

How are the front tyres? Not had the DS3 long enough to notice but on the Mazda as the tyres wear they become far more prone to following road cambers, torque steer e.t.c. especially if the shoulders have rounded off.

Mine jinks about a bit on uneven surfaces at speed. I put it down to the sports suspension.

My 63 plate is exactly the same. Every lean on the road pulls the car one way or the other. It's a hard ride. I was unsure about this and I've had the car checked out and there is apparently nothing wrong with it.

I'm putting it down to me driving MPV's for the last 10 years which were smooth as butter to drive and as my new DS3 is the smallest car I've ever driven I'm not used to it yet.

My DS3 definitely has more sensitive steering than the car I had before it. Like footix, we put its occasional tramlining down to the suspension/tyre setup on the DS3, but if it felt dangerous or undrivable then I'd get it looked at.

My '13 plate DS3 feels a bit heavy at times. Most other cars I drive are lighter. I've certainly never felt it pull at the steering going over bumps.

Hi, had a 2012 DS3 for a few weeks now and mine does the same. It doesn't feel right. On bumpy roads it feels quite heavy at times and pulls to the left, almost like I have no control. Not sure if this is how electric steering is meant to feel, maybe I should get it looked at.

Mine has never felt like that. If you've checked the tyre pressures, tread wear and wheel alignment etc I'd ask the dealer to check it out

Can you give a little more detail, model of car and wheels fitted? At what speed are we talking about when the steering pulls? Are we talking about natural pull from the camber of the road where the car will pulls slightly to the left or is this a little more violent?

The other thing is has the car been checked for alignment and camber? Also have the wheels been checked to make sure they don't have any dips?

Sorry for the twenty questions but helps me and other to help you!
