My THP does this from time-to-time - you turn the key and nothing, then off and turn on again and voila! I just ignore it but I'm interested to know if it's common."I'm a writer. I give the truth scope."

My guess is it's part of the interlock system? (to make sure the brake or clutch is depressed before starting). Or maybe immobiliser?

I know what you mean about stalling though, if you turn the key straight away the engine will take around 3-4 seconds to start again.

Never had the issue but I usually turn the ignition on, check its in neutral (wiggle the gear stick) then turn the key to start it. Not sure if that few seconds wait is all you need?

It's all fun and games until you park on a hill and turn the ignition forgetting that you've left it in 1st/reverse!
