ignition query

Iv just bought a ds3 and the car does not start with 1st turn of the key but no problem on 2nd turn..is this normal

My THP does this from time-to-time - you turn the key and nothing, then off and turn on again and voila! I just ignore it but I'm interested to know if it's common.

For me only happens when I stall it. Annoys the hell out of me.

My guess is it's part of the interlock system? (to make sure the brake or clutch is depressed before starting). Or maybe immobiliser?

I agree. Mine does it, too, sometimes. (Petrol 1.6 vti) and I've always assumed it's because I've rushed the immobiliser and not given it time to disengage. It only happens occasionally and, even then, always works on the second attempt.

When it happens after a stall & you have to turn it off then back on its to stop you trying to turn it over via the starter motor while the engine is running but not all cars have this lock out system

I know what you mean about stalling though, if you turn the key straight away the engine will take around 3-4 seconds to start again.

Never had the issue but I usually turn the ignition on, check its in neutral (wiggle the gear stick) then turn the key to start it. Not sure if that few seconds wait is all you need?

not had an issue yet with mine (diesel)..I just wait until the oil ok warning disappears..

Just tried this. Starts with handbrake off and no pedals pressed. Every other car I have had requires either handbrake or pedals pressed... though they were mainly 90s Hondas.
