  • Help... Is it a piston , a Ring or Carbon Buildup

Hi. I really need some advice from you guys. I have a 2010 THP . Car went into limp mode and not above 60mph. , engine light came on for repair and yes i have looked at the other posts regarding this. No black smoke at this time ..limped to a garage 1 mile awy on way home he says .mmm mught be ignition coil .. whilst am in having coffee he revs it and boom black smoke. Anyway toed home and took it to a garage who says mm no compression cylinder 4 .. so its a piston or a ring .. if its a piston he can change providing everything else is ok . IF its a ring its good night vienna.. should I A pay to get it repaired if its a piston or B get a New engine or a rocon one or D can i get i put an updated THP engine as in the 2012 155 in it .. the cars only done 32,000 sonce Feb registered 2011 .. i really appreciate ur help and understand that its been talked to death before but i need solid info from people who have experience and you guys are it .. thanks for your help

Even if it's a piston, chances are it's possibly shattered and sent small shards of metal into the oil, HPFP and other bits of the engine.

I had a similar issue with my 2010 THP and payed a fair whack for a top-end rebuild and a new pump (Nearly 2k to give you an idea on numbers).

Considering your currently out of warranty I'd go with whatever's going to provide you with the most reliability in the long run if you're planning on keeping the car.

An engine swap I'd imagine is going to cost you a lot more in labour though..?

I see you're sorta in the same situation as me. I hope it won't be too bad for you in the end!

            A fellow THP victim.
