Quick question for you lot with the private plates. I have V750 for my new plates but the way I read it, is that when I go sell the car later on I will loose the new plates. Is there a way I can keep them for life?

I believe there is a fee you can pay to retain your number that has to be renewed every ten years?

I get that bit. Its just when I put the new plate on what happens to the old one. Do I still own it?

You can pay to retain your old one,but I didn`t bother as I didn`t want to pay any more money to the DVLA!

I've recently done mine and as Jez says, if you want to keep your old number you'll have to pay a fee to retain it and unless it's worth keeping it's not worth the extra £80.

Your new number is yours for as long as you want it, just as long as you pay to transfer or retain each time you change car.
