  • Suspension problems

    Hi everyone,

I set off in my car this morning to drive home from my girlfriends house and could hear strange noises coming from the front drivers side wheel so I turned back to have a look and saw this..... So currently stranded in leeds

I was wondering if anyone could give me any advise as to what has actually happened has the spring broken or is it the collar, as if the springs need replacing I might as well get a full set of lowering springs

    Thanks for your help!

The plastic that is hanging off should be around the spring to stop a clacking noise when the spring gets compressed and the coils hit each other. But you have more problems than that the spring is off the bottom perch. Can not tell from the pic if it is broken but that is a definite possibility. I am sure whoever takes it apart should be able to tell what went wrong pretty quick.

Lowering your DS3 is a great idea! Look soooooo much better and whatever happened the mechanic will take the strut out to fix the car and that is 1/4 of the way to lowering anyway! Go for it!

Oh Welcome! Try to keep coming back and posting even after it is fixed, We like new friends!

      Thanks for the reply!

It's going into the garage first thing tomorrow morning just wanted an idea of what's actually happened

Yeah that's my thoughts might as well turn a negative into a positive I'll post some pictures tomorrow if I go with the lowered springs

      Cheers

Garage said that the spring had broke and collapsed inwards which was lucky as if it had broken outwards would have been a new tyre and maybe a wheel as well , was a simple replacement spring

Not taking any chances with the other springs and replacing them all with lowered springs soon

Strangely, my front (nearside) spring collapsed catastrophically this week also...!

Having the front splitter nearly scraping along the ground and the recovery a nightmare because of it has put me off lowering...!

Yeah I know what you mean was horrible watching it go on the back of the AA Van, Think was due to potholes on a private road so not going there again! Been repaired but hearing a rattling noise now taken to a garage near me couldn't find the problem however did assure me it's mechanically sound....... Still cautious

Also told me I need new discs and pads and my Backbox is rusting 🙁 so not been a good few weeks

If your exhaust is rusting it most probably be the bracket.
If your car is still under warranty then take it to the dealers just had mine done

Got mine back yesterday - both front springs replaced (to be on the safe side) and a bent suspension link also.

Could have been much worse I suppose - no other damage.

                  I blame cheap Chinese steel...!!

The front is riding slightly higher at the moment than normal, as I hope the new springs will compress over time.
