  • Main Citroen Dealer - Hmmmm

I wanted some front and rear muflaps fitted to my DS3 and last Wednesday i went to the THE main Citroen Dealer in Sunderland to book the car in to get them fitted. I went to the service department and told the young fella behind the counter what i wanted and he went off and came back with a price of £180.

Wow!!! £180. I then asked him why their website says it's £118 for the front and rear mud-flaps to be supplied and fitted. The fella then goes online and then says "oh, if that's what the website says then thats the cost"

I got the mud-flaps fitted to my DS3 and i love them for £118, but i can't help but think that if some old fella went in they would have charged him £60 extra.

    Don't know what you fella's think ....

Is it worth having mudflaps fitted? Was wondering whether to get some for mine. I'm new to DS3 [emoji4][emoji4]

It`s a bit make it up as you go along with the price, but most retailers have a price match policy these days as they want to make a sale!

Or just pick up a set for what about 70-75 pounds and put them on yourself. Difficulty level is 1 step up from filling your tank.

What happened is your dealer would have quoted the standard labour rate for the workshop, online the rate is discounted by Citroen for accessories only.

It's quite possible the person your spoke too didn't know this.

I'm not sure why everyone is telling me they are on eBay etc. I couldn't be bothered to jack the car up, take the wheel off, drill holes etc, which is why I got a set fitted for me for £118 and im happy.

Point I'm making in this post is if say my dad took my DS3 to be fitted with a set of mud-flaps he would have been charged £60 extra ...

Have you bought an additional/spare set of mud flaps from ebay yet? Ha, I've just fitted my own but to be fair £118 isn't out of this world if you don't fancy the hassle.

I guess it just shows you need to do your research when buying something to ensure you get the best deal, some people will do this, others won't.

Ok first off in my humble opinion the front flaps are mostly cosmetic, they're too small to catch any mud etc. The rears are fine though. Secondly keep an eye on eBay - I got a full set (front and back) for around £45 a few years back, fitted them myself (as cyclone said level 1 for easiness)....

I can see your point but at the end of the day it was a simple mistake made by the dealer, who I'm sure would have refunded the difference on the discovery of that mistake.

Possibly, but I think it would have been an honest mistake. The person you may have spoken to didn't know about either price, he had to get a quote for you & was surprised at the online price

As much as each member of staff at any shop etc should know about prices & products they sell, what is online is added usually by a 3rd party or someone not directly involved.

They honoured you the online price, so good job doing your homework before

Either the online will go up to £180 or the dealer will quote £118 from now on. I'd hope at least.

Am I missing something here? I can't see why the price charged should differ based on the age of the customer.
