from an engineering perspective, Reverse gear isnt a gear ratio in itself, its just an idler gear/cog that attaches/sits in between the the output shaft of the first gear ratio and the main output shaft of the gearbox, (when you introduce a third cog to two cogs, the last cog changes direction).
So, if it doesnt quite go in, make sure you've come to a compete stop, if it still wont go in, whilst lightly pushing the lever into reverse, slowly lift the clutch, and it should go straight in when the synchro clutches insdie the gearbox start to bite.
If this still wont help, maybe something more serious afoot. Hope this helps. Maybe a bit too deep haha. Coffee.

Cycle the clutch, it happens to most cars due to the way reverse works, especially ones like the DS3 where there isn't a gate (e.g VWs there you have to press down the gearstick in Neutral to get reverse)

reverse gears have a straight gearing (therefore your hear this howling if you drive a bit faster in reverse) and they can hit tooth on tooth so the gear won't get in.
Cycle the clutch changes the gear positions and you can get the reverse gear in.
For all these reasons all other gears have a helical gearing. Runs quieter and gear changing works better.
