  • engine cover

I went out to my car this morning and my engine cover is hanging down and almost touching the ground. It has totally broken away at one of the screws and looks like it has taken some damage, the thing is I don't think I have hit anything and I very rarely drive over any speed bumps.
I really need the car at the weekend, is this something that could/should be bodged by taping it up or similar?

I'm sure a few well placed Cable ties will be fine. All my screws had seized and wouldn't come off so had to bodge it a bit. Out came the cable ties....They may melt/snap under the rigors of driving and heat from the engine, but at least its still protecting the underside in some ways.

One of my previous cars had this issue, I just removed the cover and asked the dealer what was best action, they said they do the same when the covers or fixings break and had never known any issues That was a Vauxhall though lol

They are usually there for a small aero benefit but nothing you'd notice, only thing you probably would notice is more road grime in the engine bay.

I've just looked further and the guard looks OK, it's where it fits to that has snapped so there's nowhere for it to screw into
Spoke to the garage and they are going to see if it can be quickly fixed or if not just take it off

I drilled some new holes where my screws didn't want to budge and then located the cable tie to the nearest fixing. Seems ok to me. I'll admit its a bit dodgy. But hey ho. I may lose it down the M40 one day, so I apologise to the cars behind now....

The garage have looked at it, it was only holding on with 1 screw, the 2 screws that hold it to the mudguards have ripped out damaging the mudguards too. So they've taken it off.
To replace all damaged parts would cost the best part of £400, or as the mudguards are still safe and the only thing broken on them is the bit to hold on this plastic tray, I'm not going to bother
