I'm just gonna point out the fact that I know the game is new and that it could be great if the issues I'm about to highlight are fixed.
I played alot of DS1 and alot of DS2. More DS1 than 2 but either way I had multiple characters on both games with more than 300 hours on. Nerdy I know. Now when DS2 was released I was excited but when I actually played it I was extremely disappointed. I mean the game was pretty fine but it tried too hard to be DS1 copying the same formula or whatever (Like how you go from a poison based area to a fiery area [DS1 Blighttown - Demon Ruins, DS2 Harvest Valley/Earthen Peak - Iron Keep] however in DS2 it was weird because you go up an elevator and end up inside a lava based area? And it just doesn't make much sense.) which in turn kind of put me off the Souls games. Until DS3 was announced and it was alot more like DS1, I mean Firelink Shrine was back! Which was much better than Majula IMO although it definitely isn't the same area. I couldn't wait to get it.
Finally I got it and then quickly started to notice alot of problems. Starting off with something I know everyone will agree with, Poise. "The Ability to withstand attacks without breaking form"? I think is it's in game description. Although what does it actually do? Nothing. The stat is broken. It worked in DS1 and 2 although in slight different ways, however it does nothing at all in DS3. I know this might be a bug and will be fixed, but it seems kinda lazy that they forgot to program one of the games main stats (one that alot of people rely on in both PVP and PVE). That being said though, it doesn't seem completely broken. The enemies do seem to have some level of Poise, getting staggered after enough damage and interrupting their attack but not all the time which is fair. But what isn't fair, is when I have my attack interrupted because somehow my fully charged heavy attack with my ultra greatsword didn't interrupt the small enemy with the sh*tty straight sword.
Next complaint, the enemies. Now this definitely doesn't go for every enemy but they tried so hard to make some enemies not difficult and just annoying or tedious to deal with. One of the biggest offenders are the jailers. Why are they in this game? They're not a difficult enemy to fight at all which is why I don't mind them that much, but it's annoying how they can drain your HP just by looking at you, even if you have them stun locked by attacking them they still constantly DRAIN your HP for a maximum of 20 seconds or something? Who thought that was a good idea? Imagine fighting a bunch of enemies that don't have much potential to kill you unless you get careless and then killing them all, only to have to stand there for 20 seconds for your HP to return from 1hp to its max again, only to then move onto another area and do exactly the same. Not fun. Next the Hollow Slaves? I think they're called, once again not a very difficult enemy, just annoying to fight but mainly because they're in alot of areas but harder? You encounter them really early on in the Undead Settlement I believe? Or maybe on the High Wall of Lothric and then again at the Cathedral but they have more health and do more damage despite not looking any different? They don't have anything to tell which is harder until the Grand Archives when they have a white hot axe or similar. The next? The Ghru Leapers, nothing but annoying. I'm gonna put this one down to I kinda suck vs these but they're still quite BS they initiate a fight by grabbing which if caught will rip your HP apart, and then they will continuously jump up in the air and come back down and basically wipe your HP in one, best thing about that, you're lucky to hit them once before they jump up immune to your attacks and then hit you while you're stuck in attack animation. Then finally the Pus of Man. I have no idea why these are in the game, I'm sure there's some lore behind the weird black blob things but they're just not fun to fight, when I go to the Consumed King's Garden I tend to just run past and whenever I see them elsewhere I ignore them. Easy to kill as a pyromancer, annoying for a melee, again I probably suck but they're annoying either way.
PvP. Now I don't mind being invaded, in fact I always try to create new builds for PvP to see what I enjoy the best when I play the game, my goal when I have my build is always to PvP it is fun, although can suck at times, but that is the problem with most online games. The problem I have is how unbalanced it seems. I feel like as the host when I'm invaded, I lag more than they do and it makes no sense, it happened in DS1 and 2 but not as extensively as it does in 3, attacks missing which clearly hit, attacks hitting but actually missed. Enemies flying around the map, people who suck too hard at PvP who try to force you to attack them near a bunch of enemies (I am aware of the seed of the giant however). I can't really explain it that well but it just doesn't seem like it works.
Spellcasting. Now in DS1 and 2 you had something alike a D&D casting style, how each spell had a number of uses before you can't cast it anymore which was fine I guess but did have some problems, they also made casting drain stamina so that you couldn't just spam cast spells which was a great idea until, they made DS3 and introduced ashen. Now this I love, having a mana bar instead of a certain amount of uses, but what I HATE and I mean HATE with a passion, and is the sole reason for me making this post alone, it STILL consumes stamina to cast a spell, and not just a bit of stamina half or more of MAX STAMINA. I had 40 endurance and can get 2 sunlight spears off and have no stamina, soothing sunlight? THE ENTIRE STAMINA BAR!??? Who designed that? WHO THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA??? Do you what that means? That means if you're mid boss fight and say you have no estus left since you have to use some slots for ashen flasks too, now you're low and you NEED to heal, you wait for the boss to attack, you dodge and get to a safe position, you cast and you heal the cast time takes awhile despite having the Sages Ring +2 btw and then notice the boss is charging at you, then what? YOU HAVE NO STAMINA AND GET HIT AGAIN. It just results in a stalemate of you getting hit, healing then getting hit again with no way of escaping thanks to it draining your stamina. Now I know you could just use another healing spell, but they don't heal as good as soothing sunlight and they still have a long cast time. This issue straight up put me off caster builds because it makes some bosses impossible whereas others are way too easy.
Minor issues I have with the game being, too many bonfires. In DS1 there was like 1 or 2 max per area and they were usually at the start and end of the area with maybe one in the middle if it is a big area. DS2 stepped it up a bit adding a few more in each area, but DS3 ramps it up even more gaining a bonfire after every boss too? Sure it sorta happens in DS1 too but usually because a boss fight resulted in you moving to another area or meeting a dead end. You literately start the game near a bonfire, kill Ludex? Gundyr and then bonfire appears in the boss area, only to meet the next area which is Firelink Shrine, so thats 3 bonfires in one area basically, a really short area too. DS1 starts with alot of bonfires in the Asylum at least but after Firelink Shrine, next bonfire isn't until midway through Undead Burg, then after that you either need to run past a dragon or kill a dragon to get the Sunbro bonfire in Undead Parish. The fact there is no Rusty Iron Ring or similar is annoying too, DS1 had one area where it was needed Blighttown, in DS3 I feel like it's needed in a few areas if not helpful in some, but either way it is pretty necessary for Farron Keep but there is nothing alike it in the game, which makes the area possibly the worst area in any Souls game. Blighttown I actually liked despite the horrendous FPS issues.
I'm sure I'm missing something but either way, rant over. Just gonna clarify again, I understand the game is new and some of these issues will probably be fixed and if so I think it could possibly be better than DS1 and I LOVE that game, but as of yet, the game is just really frustrating and annoying but not in a fun and addictive way, just in a way that makes me wanna play DS1. But anyone else agree?
