  • I think we need new tyres!

    Morning all.

My partner came home from work last night complaining that she had a flat on the drivers rear. So I nipped out side to take a look.
Now I'm not a car expert at all, but the cracks on these tyres look pretty horrific to me!

I booked it in at my local for all 4 to be replaced immediately.

Are these the original tyres that would of been fitted?
Her DS3 has done 28k and is a 60 plate.
They appear to be all the same (even though one of them looks like the side wall has been sanded down to nothing!)

    What do you think?

My guess is they're the tyres the car came with, Citroen have used Michelin and Bridgestone for the DS3.

Good call on getting them all replaced, they don't look safe to me.

Here's some info: When should I change my tyres?

Mmm I don't think I've ever had tyres on a car for six years but I'd guess this was probably normal for tyres of that age. As Patrick said good call on getting them changed if they're worrying you

Looking at your location I can make a pretty good guess at the cause - ozone cracking!

Woah!! I wouldn't drive on those! Good choice getting them changed!

How old are the tyres? - from manufactured date, not how long they have been on the car:

            October 11 - October 17 2010

I feel pretty satisfied that they have done their job!
Bit worried that they were not brought to my attention on the recent MOT or service though.

              Evening everybody,
I dont remember seeing tyre sidewalls that bad/cracked.
              Very unusual!

The "sanded down 1" has been run against a kerb cos its damaged wheel too!
Should have told you on MOT/service find another garage.

              regards

The rubber does look as though it has aged or perished, good idea to get them checked!

I've never managed to make tyres last longer than three years, current rears on the DS3, 6 years is amazing

Yeah mine are in need of a change after 3 years. And that's with running winter tyres for half the year.
Just had to change my discs and pads too. My mechanic was shocked how worn they were with only 25k. I'm no boy racer either.

It seems to me the wear and tear components are not made to last. Good business I guess.
